6. I had a German Shepard once who tried to stop a flash flood with
his nose.

My aunt lived at the base of a mountain, and if we had a good rain, it would take a few hours, but we'd eventually get a flash flood in the river. For entertainment we'd go and watch. (Hey, she lived in the sticks.) Anyways, the flash flood wouldn't come all at once. You'd see a steady swelling, and then you'd hear a roar warning you it was time to run back, away from the river because the real surge was about to hit. It was in the early part, as the waters were slowly rising. The German Shepard actually recognized that the water was rising and he dug his nose in the sand and pushed it up in an effort to build a dam to stop it from rising further. Smart damn dog.
