Poll question: Stupidest name for a diner dish? |
|
The idea of a "fudge fantasy" is frightening enough in itself, let alone the cookie...
Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity - regardless of the tast, you have to say it! Roots aside, I don't want to eat anything "tooty"... brussel sprouts are bad enough.

2. We call it "hotdish" in Minnesota, too. |
|
And be careful, buddy - I was raised on hotdish! Rice & hamburger, ham cheese & potato, turkey cheese & noodle, the possibilities are endless and you can put all your food groups together that way. :)

14. That's what we called it in MN also. |
|
Our Wisconsin cousins would mock us. Called it "casserole". Said a "hot dish" was what a "casserole" was served in.

22. I got teased in Wisconsin too for my use of the word hotdish. |
|
Tell your cousins they have it backward. The "casserole" is what the "hotdish" is served in.

There are many recipes for hotdish, of course.
My family favorite is hamburger hotdish. I also make a great chicken hotdish.
I am constantly teased about the word "hotdish" (born and bred Minnesotan here!), but I don't understand the confusion. It's hot. It's a dish. What's not to get?

and it's usually served with several small dishes, sort of like a Polynesian tapas, and almost always features a marinated meat dish served with small wooden pupu forks.

My kid sister studied speech when she was in college. She was convinced that Tom Carvel had a cleft palette.
