Detroit Tigers Outfielder Arrested For Shoplifting a $29.99 Belt
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) -- Craig Monroe of the Detroit Tigers is facing a theft charge in Florida after authorities say he stole a belt from a department store.

The 27-year-old outfielder wrapped a $29.99 belt around his waist and tried to leave a store Friday without paying, according to arrest reports. He posted $500 bond and was released from county jail later that day.

It was not immediately clear if Monroe had hired an attorney. He is scheduled to face arraignment on the second-degree misdemeanor on Dec. 15.

Monroe hit .293 with 18 home runs and 72 RBIs in 128 games last season for the Tigers.

1. He could have tired it on and forgot about it.
Happens all the time. But I can't believe they arrested him, I would think once he found out he would have apologized and paid for it.

3. I walked out of the local Bed Bath and Beyond
with a hairbrush once. I was there looking for something else entirely, and when I didn't find what I was looking for, I walked out forgetting that I'd picked the brush up on impulse.

5. ugh... nothing will ever go right for the tigers
It was probably just a mistake, but I'm sure Mike Ilich (owner) will be thrilled about the positive publicity. At least sit wasn't Pudge - that would have garnered a lot more attention.
