Poll question: Which Children's shows really annoy you.
I have a few nieces 2, 4, 6 and I am forced to watch a lot of children programming. So I ask all of you Which show do you just want to cancel, destroy, whatever.

26. What pokemon is better than the old jigglypuff? lulling everyone
to sleep, then getting sooooo mad, and always with that big marker...!

I love jigglypuff. Reminds me of my GF. No one wants to hear her sing, either.

I've never been able to watch it, and I don't let my son watch it. There's something not right about it.

9. How could you forget Thomas the Tank?
My 2 year old watches them OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER every day!!!

This causes confusion and delay in my day and somewhat turns me into a less than useful engine. Oh, and Sir Topem Hat needs to go on a diet.

10. Rugrats is the worst effing show ever created...ever!
A bunch of stupid kids in diapers who say things like "gee, Tommy, what would you guess is the internal temperature in therms of the yellow disc in the sky?"

And the WORST theme music ever!!!

12. I used to let my kids watch it until
my preschool age daughter started acting snotty and mouthy, just like Angelica. "Rugrats" got cut off immediately. I can't see that it has an redeeming value at all.

13. You forgot the blatantly biblical "Veggie Tales"
Religious indoctrination at its worst.

I let my kids watch South Park and The Simpsons before they'll ever watch the tripe from the morning shows.

BTW - some decent kids shows are Sponge Bob, Fairly Odd Parents and Jimmy Neutron. They have a very adult bent to them...sort of like the Simpsons.

30. I like "Veggie Tales"...very original and the comedy can be funny for
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 11:21 PM by Carson
adults as well. Also, the songs were pretty catchy. When my son was younger, he loved the shows.

As for the indoctrination, all the shows had a moral or theme, such as not calling people names, being nice to those who are different than you and other such good ideas. Sounds pretty evil and subversive, doesn't it?

Of course, they do have shows based on biblical stories as well, with an appropriate moral.

Personally, even with the "God" references, I liked the ideas and behavior presented, and rather my child emulate the Veggie characters than Cartman or Bart Simpson.

My humble opinion only.

(On edit: I don't know if you've actually watched the shows, but they don't push religion down anyone's throat. Of course, they do talk about God and biblical characters, but they are emphasizing how people should treat one another, using those characters as references. Look at it as a sort of an Aesop's fables, if you will. No character on the show ever said, "Hey, kiddies, if you don't believe in God or Jesus, you're going straight to Hell.")

17. Barney is a total Barney
So are all the rest of the PBS shows. Nick Jr. and Noggin are where it's at, but unfortunately, you have to shell out for the gimungo cable package, which I'm just about to cancel. Dora the Explorer, Blues Clues and Lazy Town are winners.
