Dem. presidential candidates/presidents are doing, versus what past GOP presidential candidates/presidents are doing. Dems are doing things to better the world. Carter is working towards peaceful solutions in many conflicts around the world. Dukakis teaches at a university in Boston with little fanfare (i also read in the Globe that he picks up litter every day on his way to work), and Clinton is working to raise awareness of the AIDS crisis. What are GOP assholes doing? Working in the private sector to make massive amounts of $$$ for themselves (Poppy) and acting as partisan attack-whores on CNN (Dole). Nothing better underscores the difference in philosophy between the two parties IMHO...

13. Cool! I always thought he was too nice to be president
The political system just chewed him up. I'm glad he's still out there.

14. i know, check out my post #8; past Dem presidents/candidates
are doing altruistic things, while past GOP presidents/candidates are still being the same self-serving assholes they always were.

15. Right, Carter was out building houses -- Ford and Reagan? Nada.
They are a totally different species, the way their brains work.

19. same here
I haven't picked up litter in probably two decades because of this -- don't want people to think I'm doing "community service."

17. A few years back I passed him on the street.
I was in Brookline, MA, and he was just walking down the street opposite me. We were the only ones around. He smiled at me and said "Hi" to which I sort of stared at him slackjawed and yammered 'a...buh!?'

Funny how in a different world he might have been president and never have been able to walk down a street by himself ever again.

18. it's crazy eh? seeing him this morning, all by himself, in the middle
of a park with lots of traffic passing by, while he was picking up garbage totally unnoticed, really made me think of how happy i am to be a dem (sorry for the extreme run-on sentence:) it also reminded me what utter pieces of shit repukes are, and how hard we have to work to get them out next time...
