McArthur Park - Best song of all time? |
|
I think it was voted "worst song" of all time. But for some reason I just love it.

NO!!!!!
My next-door neighbor in the college dorms was a psycho bitch, who loved that song. One evening, I had a temp of 104, and called her up and asked her to please turn it down. Instead, she cranked it up, put the recond-player arm up so the album would repeat over and over (how old am I?) and left for the night, locking her door.

She ruined the best song in the world for you. Now you ever be able to hear it and love it again.
That is so terrible. I am so sorry.

5. My best friend was at work one day. |
|
A customer came in to register a minor complaint. In discussing the situation, she had the poor judgement to use the phrase, "I don't think that I can take it."
My friend replied, "'Cause it took so long to bake it?"
His co-worker at the desk added, "And you'll never have that recipe again?"
The boss then stuck his head out of his office and added, "Oh nooooo......."

8. Being high on acid was essential to the full appreciation of the lyrics. |

MacArthur Park
Written By: Jimmy Webb Sung By: Richard Harris or Donna Summer, equally silly.
Spring was never waiting for us, girl It ran one step ahead As we followed in the dance Between the parted pages and were pressed In love's hot, fevered iron Like a striped pair of pants
MacArthur Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh, no!
I recall the yellow cotton dress Foaming like a wave On the ground around your knees The birds, like tender babies in your hands And the old men playing checkers by the trees
MacArthur Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh, no!
There will be another song for me For I will sing it There will be another dream for me Someone will bring it I will drink the wine while it is warm And never let you catch me looking at the sun And after all the loves of my life After all the loves of my life You'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands and I will use it I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it I will have the things that I desire And my passion flow like rivers through the sky And after all the loves of my life After all the loves of my life I'll be thinking of you And wondering why
MacArthur Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh, no! Oh, no No, no Oh no!!

And don't those words remind you of "BlowUp" All those scenes in the Park with the green, green grass.

MacArthur Park was one of his signature songs in the 70's. Is "Blow Up" a song or a movie?

16. BlowUp was an Antonioni Movie |
|
It was very strange. But a lot of it was in a park. You can still get it in video stores - it was a cult classic.

20. Damn...I didn't think that anybody else (on the Forum) would know |
|
...who Maynard Ferguson is..... I actually tried out for his band many years ago (in Jacksonville, Florida). My solos were OK but I couldn't cut the charts. The music (for Alto Sax) looked like a flock of crows had dipped their feet in black ink and flew down on a bunch of staff paper and danced for awhile.....Fuck!...it was hard! I made too many mistakes and was so nervous I could hardly think...but it was fun..(now that I look back on it. :) Maynard was a absolute sweetheart though...what a nice, warm person...

18. I searched for the song on the Internet years ago . . . |
|
. . . and was surprised to find that it was on lots of lists of "best songs ever" and "worst songs ever."
Its funny how most people either hate it or love it.
I love it and even like the Richard Harris vocals.
