Uh oh.. There is going to be a fish fry at my house tonight... *OOPS!* |
|
I er accidently wiped out my entire koi pond. Discovered the little carcasses floating and sunken this morning.
I had put the hose in the pond to do a 2 inch refill.... It's a 10' x 5' and 2.5', about 1000 gallons. The fish were 2 years old and one of them was almost 10 lbs.
I thought I had shut the water off, and I had apparently turned it the wrong way so it kept refilling. With the rain I didn't see that the pond was overflowing the edges since it's at grade, and overnight it flushed out all the good pond water, replacing it with bad chlorinated tap water, which kills fish.
I FEEL HORRIBLE! I'm actually teary eyed over this. I LOVED those guys.
Can I get some hugs and sympathy and then some recipes, please?

I am SO sorry! Those little buggers cost a lot of money, don't they?
Well, scale em, heat up some butter in th skillet and fry them till they ae brown on both sides. You can coat them with some cornmeal first if you want to.

Before somebody shows up to look down their nose at you and suggest that you stick to "Fish Screen Savers"....

4. LOL that's right! I forgot about that!!!! I really, genuinely loved those |
|
guys, and spent over a thousand bucks putting this pond together, with the latest filtration and such... the fishies weren't terribly expensive, but as they grew in size became more valuable... which is even more sad because I nurtured them from little minnows. They were friendly and personable and such a joy.
I have put all the dechlorinating chemicals I have into the pond for now and am letting it rest, in hopes the stragglers recover. This afternoon I'll go in and see what can be salvaged...

5. Should I bury them in the hole I had dug to put the Gardenia in?? it's |
|
about 2.5 deep and will then have the shrub put on top.. that's a fitting demise, isn't it?
It's just too chilly for a proper fish fry....

7. I think it's a perfect memorial. |

I put my 2-pound Goldie that succumbed to Dropsy last year under a rose bush over in my girlfriend's garden.

9. SUSHI jokes notwithstanding, NO... but a proper burial seems better |
|
than the trash can....
And it looks like gardenias like fish emulsion as an amendment.

6. I sympathize - we have a fish pond, too and it's a bear to maintain... |

...but at least we're on well water so when we top off it's not toxic.
Sorry about your fishies!

10. 4 of them had survived as of a few hours ago, so I dumped in about 2 |
|
cups of amquel type dechlorination chemical and shut the filters down in hopes it will stablize, so we'll see.
That was all the chemical I had, so let's hope it helps a little. Poor little guys.

11. 24 fish were buried this afternoon, there are 4 survivors, who are |
|
sluggish, but still moving, and who might just make it.
Is there a saint for fishies?
Someone want to do a mass or say a prayer or something? The kid, stood over them for a moment and said 'peace out..."
