I need new music to listen to. Please help.
I have some particular tastes in music. I pretty much like anything "Power Pop"-py that makes you want to instantly get up and dance, or anything else that has great hooks and, above all, "sparkle". Some of my musical heroes include:

ABBA
Badfinger
Big Star
Beach Boys
Blondie
Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo
Clash
Dwight Twilley/Phil Seymour
Cheap Trick
Go-Gos
Kirsty MacColl
The Monkees (Yeah, what of it?)
Ramones
Electric Light Orchestra
Olivia Tremor Control (Didn't much care for the other Elephant 6 projects)
Moonpools and Caterpillars

I've been relistening to all my CDs over and over again and am just now getting a little tired of them. I need something new that would mesh well with the above list. The last two CD's I bought that I really liked were Tal Bachman's debut CD and Blue Man Group's latest. All the rest over the last five years have been garbage.

Can anyone make any good recommendations, based on all the above info?

I might have to check them out. I neglected to put the Breeders on my list. I just LOVE me some Breeders.

Try Natacha Atlas, who sings very catchy, Eurobeat-style Arabic-language pop songs.

10. Along the Power Pop vein-

Sloan
New Pornographers
Carl Newman

All three units are hooky, melodic, and tuneful as hell.

12. Ooh - try Sam Phillips - Martinis & Bikinis
Very smart lyrics (a la Kirsty MacColl), produced by (ex) hubby T-Bone Burnett. Martinis and Bikinis is somewhat Beatle-esque. Great melodies...

Here's the review from allmusic.com:
With Martinis and Bikinis, Sam Phillips' music turns decidedly Beatlesque: edgier and more psychedelic than her previous work, songs like "Strawberry Road" and "Same Rain" springboard from John Lennon-inspired origins, while "Same Changes" brazenly borrows from "If I Needed Someone" — Van Dyke Parks' string arrangement for the stunning "Baby, I Can't Please You" even recalls "Tomorrow Never Knows." (To punctuate matters, the album closes with a cover of Lennon's "Gimme Some Truth.") The difference between Phillips and the vast majority of her pop-revisionist contemporaries, however, is that she never coasts on the fumes of her influences, but turns them on their head and gives them new life — regardless of the approach, her impassioned, spiritually charged songs remain the product of a singular vision.

surely you have a Beatles album or two? If not, try Rubber Soul for an introduction. It's got a lot of bounce.

15. Poppy rock
Pretty much anything from the Britpop era will float your boat (Oasis, Blur, The Verve, Stone Roses etc.)

If you're looking for something a lil more mellow the Jeff Buckley Live At Sin-é Legacy Edition is gorgeous.

The Coral had a pretty decent debut album a few years ago.

British wuss rock like Coldplay and Travis has been in rotation with me here lately. So has Emmylou Harris' wrecking ball (produced by Daniel Lanois so it's really spacey.)

If you want to check out some electronica Daft Punk's Discovery is excellent and should be right up your ally.

That's all off the top of my head.

16. A powerpop list with no Todd?
You must get some Todd! (as in Rundgren in case you didn't know which Todd is God). Todd would fit in nicely with your taste.

Something about the guy's voice just rubs me the wrong way. He sounds exactly like the asshole brother of a childhood friend of mine.

21. My husband's list of faves very closely mirrors yours
So I e-mailed him for a list of recommendations. He's a serious music geek (much like myself) so he took this task VERY seriously. Here's what he recommends:

New Pornographers - Mass Romantic
Spoon - Girls Can Tell
Supergrass - Supergrass Is 10: The Best of 1994-2004
Puffy AmiYumi (any & all)
Sloan (any & all)
Cardigans - First Band on the Moon
the Shins - Oh, Inverted World

Hope you find something you like!

23. Arcade Fire
And hunt around for some of the old classic power pop that is showing up on CD. The Real Kids, The Go, The Pop, The Nerves, The Reducers, Teenage Head (no CD, that I can find, but you might find vinyl), The Last, etc.

And it's harder punk, but if you liked the Ramones and Clash, you'd probably like Pissed Off (With Good Reason) by the Subhumans.
