I HATE Office Potlucks!!! |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 03:33 PM by Jack_Dawson
Not the food so much, but damn in my office (we have two), there are about 15 people. None of whom I find the least bit interesting or compelling. And during "lunch", it's just dead fucking silence. Except for the occasional "So Lisa what did YOU bring". Then more silence. So I always chow down and then hunker in my office to avoid the awkward silence. That's where I am now. 14 people are still out there, eating and saying nothing. Arrrrrgh.
Just venting. Thanks for listening! :hi:

4. I'm surprised that the men |
|
aren't zeroed in on anything sports related. Every time we go to lunch, that's the topic while the women quietly eat.

With the holidays approaching we have many of these events coming up. I feel the same way. I don't really have any interest in hanging out with most of the people and I do hang out with a few that are somewhat interesting or have common interests. uggh. Not looking forward to it - in the next week I have a birthday club, a baby shower, a retirement, and 2 holiday parties. Definitely overkill. Oh and the food is usually bad. :-)

But yes, every company party was referred to my close-knit subcompany as "Mandatory Fun Inflictions" or sometimes "Mandatory Family Inflictions" when all the married people would drag along the wives and kids. Not that there's anything wrong with wives and kids, but when you're on a beach knocking back a few beers....

6. I guess I feel pretty lucky |
|
Our department always manages to have 3 or 4 good groups for discussion during any department event. When one group gets too heavy into discussions of research, I'll move onto another one that is talking about current events, or politics....

And as a bonus, it truly is fun to piss of the fundies and psycho redneck repubs in my area. I consider it a sport and I'm an Olympian!

18. What are your favourite methods? Plus, |
|
I could probably get a lot more for my housing dollar than in California, yes?
Where in GA do you live?

23. You should see the looks I get around Covington, |
|
35 miles southeast of Atlanta, at some of my bumperstickers. And then there is my big mouth that loves to point out hypocrisy to all around me. I'm popular at county commission meetings I tell you. I'll make signs and put them in my front yard just saying the usuals (current one says: Newton Co Republicans - stole my Kerry/Edwards yard signs ~ National Republicans - stole the election).
And yes, you would get a lot more housing for your dollar here. Especially where I live, I am just outside what is considered the Metro Area. Taxes are a lot cheaper, gas is, housing - everything.
Did you ever see that stupid show In the Heat of the Night? They filmed that in Covington.

And he was an ass!
Actually, quite a few progressives there. Oxford College is in Covington. It's a satelitte campus of Emory University (Emory actually started here, but moved to Atlanta). In Atlanta - Emory, GA State, GA Tech Athens (same distance almost to Atlanta) - Univ of GA Macon - roughly one hour - Mercer University
I'm in heavy recruiting mode today. Anything to get another progressive True Blue in my town!!!!

11. Too bad....my old office was full of EXCELLENT cooks who enjoyed |
|
competing. The food AND conversation at these get-togethers was always top-notch, lots of joking, kidding and pigging-out. I typically brought a home-made, lite cheesecake which all the women fawned over.

22. I agree that the "chip guy" is a cheap bastard, but |
|
at our workplace there are guys (and they are always guys) who are happy to chow down on potluck food without contributing anything at all. It's disgraceful. We also have people who steal other people's lunches from the fridge! Real bunch of freepers.
