1. I like them.
I just hate how commercialized they've become. It's like American flags, yellow ribbons, even the Star Spangled Banner, all of which have been turned into crap with over-/mis-use.

First it was "Rabrrrrrr stole my Klimts" then it was "Rabrrrrrr stole my Twomblys", and now it's "Rabrrrrrr stole my Kinkades". Give it up. No one believes you.

I have all the receipts for the $20,000+ worth I've bought. I keep them in a fireproof safe box.

These babies are AWESOME investments. But more importantly, THEY'RE BEAUTIFUL!

I can sit and stare at 'em for hours. Each stroke, a masterpiece. Every bit of paint a subtle nuance of lightplay.

Truly amazing.

I bet they're worth a hundred grand by now.

Real Kinkade owners know that Kinkade receipts are so full of light and glory that they burn their way through any sort of puny human safe - and instead must be given their own room where they can fly free as a swan - should they ever choose to do so, which sadly, they don't, but YOU LIE!

Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 08:26 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Just because you can't afford a Kinkade, and have to settle for faux-Kinkades doesn't mean you have the right to come here and attack me.

You are forced to "collect" the lesser artists, like G. Harvey:

http://www.christcenteredmall.com/stores/art/harvey/a_time_of_grace.htm

http://www.christcenteredmall.com/stores/art/harvey/across_quiet_waters.htm

and Jim Daly

And Terry Redlin, who has a limited edition of only 29,500:

And Nathan Green:

http://www.christcenteredmall.com/stores/art/greene/family_worship.htm

And William Phillips:

You sad, sad loser. If you were a decent Christian, God would bless you with the money to buy better Christ-centered artwork. In fact, you would be blessed with so much money, you could afford to support such Christ-centered ministries as Fred Phelps and Jerry Falwell and others who are keeping America safe from the homosexual and feminist agendas. But you're a loser, so God gives you nothing but cheaper art that won't ever appreciate in value, by artists who WON'T handpaint each print in order that it matches your Christ-centered sofa in your Christ-centered and Christ-appropriate living room where your family engages in Christ-centered activities, like shopping and spending money to keep the terorists away from our beloved, Christ-centered God-created country.

Yep. You're a capital L Loser.

47. Oh, you're such a poseur
You know I'm in the right. Just admit it. Your "church" is so far into apostasy it isn't even worth mentioning. That's what my minister said.

And we this by the fruits of your "faith" - if you were faithful, you would be rich, and you could afford REAL art.

Obviously, your impoverished state is proof that you are not worthy of He who came to redeem God's chosen. jesus did not come to save everyone - only those who properly have faith in Him. And Jesus Himself said that, if you are faithful, you shall lead perfect lives of wealth, health, and happiness, and that you would only associate with people of equal faith.

Which in my case is true, because Kinkade is a man of perfect faith - you can see it in his artwork - and I associate with him.

You don't.

Nyah. And I'd ask for blessings on your soul, but you've already given it away to Satan, so I can only distance myself from you so that I am not tainted. I shall hide behind Kinkade's "Savior Bridge to Lilac Patriot Garden".

49. "Savior Bridge to Lilac Patriot Garden" is a wonderful work,
and I congratulate you for so overwhelmingly taking possession of it. Yet, it's never going to be as good as "My Rapture Comes Equipped with Side Airbags", which I must point out is printed on the back of my special edition Church-subsidized Herman Miller Aeron (figure A)

A.

Your Novakulan argument continues to suggest my being less holy than thou. Kinkade truly is a man of perfect faith, it is why I nurtured his style with adequate funding and a steady supply of smack.

Please forward further donations to:

I shall go and study "Rapture Awaiting the Appropriately Christian-dressed Children Waving Flags in the Field of Hanging Wisteria and Ivy with Lighthouse and Small Wooden English Cottage Door By The Creek of God's Tears Weeping for American Tragedy As Jesus Holds the Tattered American Flag In Crucifix Form", which I happen to have the original of.

54. My old boss spent that much on ONE Kinkade
And he bragged about it.

Apparently, there are different grades of Kinkade "paintings". The ones where he put a few dabs of paint on the canvas himself to individualize them are apparently worth more.

:puke:

Makes my brain hurt.

56. Yes, it's awful
And for the most part, the ones that have "paint" on them are painted by one of Kinkade's "expert technicians" or whateverthefuck he calls them; the people who are "trained" and work in his "galleries" to put a few brushstrokes of actual paint on a print which are then called psuedo-originals (well, that's not it - but, to his credit, he doesn't straight out call them originals, but some kind of word that means "original-like" - he might use the term "original print", which is just the sort of lovely double-speak you'd expect from a "Christian Patriot").

15. They're not even paintings
I saw a piece on Kincade and his art factory on 60 Minutes a few years ago. He has gigantic printing presses that print reproductions of his paintings, and then he has a staff of "artists" who dab a bit of paint on parts of the prints (some paint pigments cannot be reproduced accurately with tradition 4-color printing). Then they stick them in frames and ship them off to the galleries in the mall.

There are actually people who invest thousands of dollars in these things. 60 Minutes showed a couple that had so many, they didn't have the wall space to hang them all up.

And yes, from what I understand, he's a big-time fundie.

16. Bleech
The first time I saw Kinkade's work my first thought was that he learned to paint using the paint-by-numbers kits. They are so sickeningly overdone. Not my style. (I should add that my appreciation for paintings ends at roughly 1640 or so.) And then I noticed that a fair number had white clapboard churches highlighted in halos of light. That made me start to wonder. Just before Election Day I got a piece of drivel from a local fundy church inviting me to pay for the opportunity to meet Kinkade and hear him talk about religion and his art and politics. No thanks. With that piece of information I figured I knew all I needed to Thomas Kinkade - right wing, Bush-supporting, fundy hack artist.

I prefer more angst ridden artists myself, like Van Gogh. I like Monet and other such artists.

Kinkade paintings are too much in a certain niche. They're like oh-so neat and without any real meaning. At first glance they're nice, but they're without true character.

On the other hand, I like Shim Schimmel's work--he combines two of my great loves--space and animals. If you ever get a chance to google Shim Schimmel's art, it's really quite extraordinary.

Made boo-boo--it should be Schim Schimmel, with the c in both.

That Kinkaid really brings forth in bold, strong strokes of the brush. The emphasis he puts into the lines of the tower show an inner turmoil in his soul that threatens to engulf us all in a pit of shadowy fire.
