4. No, it was just the value of good freindship
And they had gone thru a lot together. Tolkein didn't understand why "loving" someone had to mean a sexual attraction, and I agree. If you read the books, that stuff is played down a lot in the movies

5. Sam was definitely crushing on Frodo....
But he did end up married and with younguns, but eventually after his beard died, he moved to the Undying Lands to spend the rest of his life with Frodo.

I'm bi, but lean heavily towards gay.

10. Very close, but not quite lovers.
I think there was an extremely deep emotional bond...just not a sexual/romantic one. I don't really see any evidence in text for one, though if you wanted to see one I see how you could.

I think they might have enjoyed spooning and holding each other tight if they slept together under the same blanket.

16. Stereotyping
I'm not taking this seriously ... who cares? What does it have to do with the story?

But why is it that whenever two guys are fast friends, involved together in an adventure, this is always one of the first questions that comes up?

It seems like a kind of stereotyping ... usually considered unfair and presumptive.

22. I think everyone is just kidding around.
I know I am.

It never crossed my mind that they were gay.

I think they just had the bond of friendship that some people have when they go through combat together. My father is 78, but still close with one of his buddies from WWII.

20. Placebo that's the beauty of imagination
If you wanted them to be lovers go ahead with that it can be fun. If you didn't want them to be then imagine that.
