E-Mail Question
Every once in awhile I got an e-mail with a virus that my virus scan picks up... I hit reply and send it back to the phuckhead but it's always a dead link....

I have my e-mail through a relative small cable company. How do these phuckheads get my e-mail?

1. It's the nature of an email virus
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 08:00 PM by Rabrrrrrr
They make fake originating email addresses and then send mail to everyone in the person's address book.

If you are very clever, you might be able to find out who sent it, but not likely.

3. Somebody got infected and
the virus sent itself out to everyone on that person's address book is how you got it.

4. It picks up your address from someone else's address book
That the virus has infected. If you are on a PC and using Outlook, it's probably doing the same to your address book. If you are a Mac user, the virus won't infect or spread through yur e-mail. It will be annoying becuase you get bogus e-mails, but harmless for a Mac.

5. It's coming from a friend of yours
(or at least from someone who has you in their address book)

It's possible, as I said, though not likely, to be able to figure out from whom it is coming.

7. Not intentionally
It's coming from a friend who has the virus. And likely doesn't know it.

8. Post the entire header here
We'll see if someone can decipher it and figure out where it came from.

10. That doesn't help at all

You need to post the whole RFC-822 header.

(but when you do, make sure to delete YOUR email, otherwise it will end up in google or elsewhere and/or lurking trolls will start sending you hate mail)

12. You know, the whole header on the email
that gives all the computer systems it's gone through.

What email program you using?

A header will look something like this:

Received: from n054.sc0.cp.net (<209.228.64.53>)
by hotel.racko.com (VisNetic.MailServer.v5.8.6.6) with ESMTP id A3M21P
for <myemail>; Tue, 07 Dec 2004 13:53:23 -0700
Received: from Sender (68.248.249.76) by n054.sc0.cp.net (7.0.030.2) (authenticated as sender@sender.com)
id 419A4452001F6E51 for me@me.com; Tue, 7 Dec 2004 20:53:14 +0000
Message-ID: <004301c4dc9e$c177bd90$4cf9f844@sender>
From: "sender" <sender@sender.com>
To: "me" <me@me.com>
Subject: subject line
Date: Tue, 7 Dec 2004 14:53:05 -0600
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0040_01C4DC6C.755B1A60"
X-Priority: 3
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180

(I replaced the real sender with "Sender" and my email with "me", just so no one gets screwed here)

Your email program will have an option somewhere to show that stuff. Unless you're using some shitass thing like yahoo or use a browser to check your legitimate email account; but you still might be able to do it.
