Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 09:04 PM by JohnKleeb
:) and 1999 and again in 2004, and a million gazillion and a half times in between. I also remember atomic radius in chemistry because its like knocking over a little kid's snowman.

11. Wait a minute...
you remember the concept of atomic radii or you can actually remember the atomic radii themselves? Cause that would be crazy...

20. He means how it changes over the periodic table
Decreases left to right on the periodic table, and increases top to bottom.

It's got to do with electronegativity and valence shells and all kinds of other fun stuff.

25. I'm pretty comfortable with
the concepts of periodicity, I should think. If I couldn't handle that, I think being in my line of work would be a little tricky. ;-)

Though this still doesn't actually answer my question...

27. what do you need to know?
I best understand things if there's something that ticks. I remember Jefferson, oh hes the guy who fucked his slave. I know its a little crude but hey, I am an all right student.

32. I'll try again
"you remember the concept of atomic radii or you can actually remember the atomic radii themselves?"

None of the above. Kleeb remembers the periodic trend of atomic radius using a snowman metaphor... at least that's my understanding

35. Well I was taking it kind of literally
Like...

"Atoms are roughly spheres. They all have radiuses, and they're all different."

Maybe our definitions of "concept" are different or summat.

36. I guess so
I didn't think it was possible to really understand the concept of atomic radii, or ionic radii, or electronegativity or whatever without understanding their patterns of periodicity. But I guess I could be wrong...

50. not a metaphor but a story
Teach was telling us about how he knocks over little kids' snowmen in the winter. You'd have to be there to get it, its a great class, great atmosphere, and I can embarass myself without feeling bad.

7. Yes
I have studied the presidents since I was 6 or so. When I was 5 I could name all the states and their capitals. Then the presidents.

Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, JQ Adams, Jackson, Van Buren, WH Harrison, Tyler, Polk, Taylor, Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, Lincoln, Johnson, Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Harrison, Cleveland, McKinley, T Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton.

The presidency died in 2001, and was replaced by an emperor/dictator. This lifelong presidential historian refuses to recognize the validity of the impostor.

We are the mediocre...PRESIDENTS! You won't find our faces on dollars or on cents! There's taylor, there's tyler, there's fillmore and there's Hayes. There's William Henry Harrison (I died in 30 days!) We are the adequate Forgetable. Occasionally regretable. Caretaker Presidents of the U. S. A!

Tom Jefferson stayed up to write the Constitution late at night
Then he and his wife had a great big fight and she made him sleep on the couch that night.

I had a Presidential placemat that was at my seat at the breakfast/lunch/dinner table from when I was about three to when I was nine.

When you spend approximately 900 meals a year staring at the same item, you tend to remember things :)
