2. Alan Alda is repub?
Wow, he just does not come across that way. The M*A*S*H episodes he wrote and directed are so "democratic" in their take on social and war issues.

7. So are they really setting him up as a Republican President?
It does seem like they're going for him. Hell, they're not gonna have Hoynes or Russell (the fictional former VEEp and Veep).

Personally, I'm not against the idea of the West Wing switching to a Republican administration IN THEORY. Shows do tend to calcify, esp. with the same cast, so it'd be a whole new show with a whole new perspective.

But not with W in office! This is our alternate universe! Please! Don't do this yet!

12. Jimmy Smits is going to win.
If the West Wing continues past the Bartlet Administration, they've already hinted that Smits character (who's going to get the Democratic nomination) will win it.

9. They seem to be playing him as a moderate to liberal Republican
remember the scene where he responed to a question about whether or not he was "Republican enough"? Maybe they'll use his character to show how extreme the Republicans have become.
