1. He Was Fun To Watch... Very Talented...
... although I found his hairdo to be a bit distracting at times. But that's how those creative types are.

2. His voice was so soothing
I used to love to just lie on the couch and listen to his voice.

3. My anal-retentive brother in law used to tape Bob Ross and
watch it in fast forward.

The "video valium" quality of Bob Ross totally loses its luster in fast forward.

Such a shame. ;)

4. He seemed nice. Poor fellow. Glad his show lives on.
And his pricey paints.

5. I like the theory behind Bob Ross
Hey! Come on, you can do this!

I wonder if they'd help us convert Ross's training system into something applicable to home improvement? Ross's gift was really in helping people believe they can do something spectacular. His paintings, while far better than Thomas Kinkade or Bob Timberlake, are not masterpieces. But that's okay. You can hang a Ross on your wall and not be thoroughly embarrassed. More to the point, you can paint your own Ross, hang that one on the wall and not be thoroughly embarrassed.

Ross made you think you could. Sometimes that's the difference between doing and wanting to.

6. I LUVS me some happy lil' clouds! I miss Bob.
Doesn't seem fair, does it? Bob Ross is dead and shit like Pat Roberston still wastes valuable resources...

My daughter painted a chest of drawers with "happy little clouds" and trees when she was about 15. The chest fell apart, but I saved the drawer fronts and turned 'em into a wall hanging...

7. Worse yet Bob Ross is dead and Thomas Kinkade is mass producing...

10. How true -
Bob Ross was at least as talented as Kinkade, but such a rlaxed, humble, and reassuring teacher.

9. I miss watchin' Bob paint his happy little bushes...
I enjoyed watching him paint more than the art, really.

11. The paintings aren't all that wonderful, but....
That wasn't the point. He made people want to get some paints & start using them. The results may not have been accurate renderings of landscapes--but more reminiscent of symbolic Chinese landscape art.

As others have pointed out--it's a pity that phoney, Thomas Kinkade, is still with us. Mass-producing trash, then charging large amounts of money for what he pompously calls "art."

12. Believe it or not!
I am a very talented artist. I majored in art in college and I have had a natural talent for drawing and painting since I was five (or so).
My opinion on Mr. Ross is that he was a great man and a great artist. As a beginning Art instructor (which is the role he played on TV), he was the jolly green fucking giant of the art world.
His basic instruction on brush use, colors and technique were genius in simplicity and execution...It takes a real special person to make something so complicated seem so easy.
