A day without any cable TV or internet |
|
So I called in sick yesterday to work. Because my girlfriend and I are moving at the end of this month, we've had our cable shut off (since the roommate who's name the cable was in already left). It was a full day without any access to the news or email or internet. Just DVDs and video games.
What a wonderful day it was too. No news of the latest Republican scandals. No updates on the war in Iraq. Just a nice walk through the woods, some peace and quiet, and a couple of hours of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Everyday should be so good.

I stare at the computer all day but then go home to no TV, which is nice. I find I worry a lot less when not overloaded with news every day. It is also nice to stay caught up, however.

3. San Andreas is an absolute panic |

I rarely watch TV at all with a few choice exceptions, but going without internet is pretty hard. It's nice to filter out the world for a little while, but if you're a political junkie like me you've got to have the news eventually.
Years ago, when I was at a wedding in Missouri, a tornado took out the power and the phone lines for most of a week. Nothin to cry about, but after a while I became really agitated just because I was so disconnected. New York could have been obliterated in a nuclear holocaust and I wouldn't have known it.
