DU and Wikipedia?????
It may not be a generally well known fact that a senior UK High Court judge last month hearing a gross defamation/libel/extortion lawsuit quoted MI5 head Eliza Manningham-Buller's professional opinion that Wikipedia is "the ultimate temple of disinformation in the internet's golden age of revisionism".

If she's right, then things are looking somewhat bleak round here....

1. What does that have to do with DU?
We're only using their software, not their content.

14. It says that the other uses their software.
Even if Wikipedia is "tainted", the content is "tainted", not the API.

3. I have to say, that's the stupidest thing I've read today
I don't even know what to say to this.

It's just a ridiculous notion that the software that runs a website determines it's credibility.

4. Didn't say that. Quoted MI5's EMB on the quality of Wikipedia's
content. That she should make such a comment is relevant and notable.

It's software credibility can be assessed in the light of such remarks.

7. Yup and the hardware credibility of an automobile can be
determined by the people and luggage it is carrying.

12. absolutely nothing.
If I own a notebook, whether I put a college thesis in it or fill it with doodles has absolutely no bearing on the nature of the notebook itself.

5. And the MI5 has never spread disinformation?
Please. This is one person's comment, and it might not even be her opinion.

8. It was her professional opinion when asked to testify in the High
Court lawsuit. Not some private whimsy.

6. It has the Voice of the People.
And people in power don't like that.

Think. What should a HONEST encyclopedia have in the entry for, say, "Department of Homeland Security"?

16. What on earth are you talking about?
So if that report about Bush's ANG records was written using Microsoft Word, in your not-so-logical-world, all documents written in word are now suspect.

Sheesh...
