Thank you John Conyers for giving me a busy day on which to do it. It's embarrassing how many posts I've added in the last two days.

Because it makes me feel important. It also helps you get questions (hopefully) accross the board, thus forming conversations and getting to know other posters.

it shows that you are either:
1. Too young to know about such BOF stuff, or;
2. You don't retain such inane trivia in your head because it's probably full of more important stuff.

Left of the middle of nowhere. The middle area of Alaska. It has an airport, so you can find it on maps usually.

As a youth in Michigan, I had always wanted to move to Alaska. Now, I can't wait to move back:)
It's the job mostly, and I'm not good at meeting new people. But it has been a great experience overall.

42. I am from the deep south |
|
and I have always been fascinated with extreme northern regions, especially the terrain and how it has been influenced by weather, etc. In North America I have spent some time in Maine, then later on I visited the Maritime Provinces of Canada. However, in Europe, I have been to the northernmost city on the continent (Hammerfest, Norway) which is about 175 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Owing to my fascination with northern extremes, I was an avid fan of Northern Exposure. If you know of the program, does central Alaska look like what was on the show?
The only other "location extreme" I have had in my life was when I was a Marine. "Join the Navy and see the world..." goes the old saying. Well, I found out that the Marines went with them. Once, in the vicinity of Singapore our ship crossed the equator. Being at sea within five degrees north or south of the equator has a strange feeling. It must come from the magnetic pull, but one can physically sense being there. There is no wind or breeze, just that caused by the movement of the ship. The ocean is as still and shiny as glass with only the wake of the ship to disturb it. The whole experience was really weird. Because of this, I am now a member of the Fraternal Order of Shellbacks, a nautical club known for its raucous nature. BTW, it was the Marines which took me to Norway, once again by ship. Because of this (crossing the Arctic Circle at sea), I also belong to a nautical fraternity called the "blue-nosers" as well.
Thank you for answering my questions. Central Alaska must be an interesting place to be.
