Pale Male is back, rebuilding his nest on the ledge.
Someone posted the story yesterday that the hawk and his family were evicted from the ledge of the hoity-toity building where they've lived for about 11 years. The nest was removed a couple of days ago. Apparently, the condo board had voted to evict the birds. Well, I'm happy to see that the bird is back and rebuilding his nest. I'll be interested to see what happens next.

1. This is NYC
if that bird were human they couldn't evict him. All he needs is a piece of mail delivered to him at that address. Oh well...

3. So why hasn't anyone sent him one ?

though I guess there's a deliverability issue with the Postal Service. Perhaps someone could open a PO Box for him ...

2. Awesome!
I read about that in the paper this morning, and it made me soooo angry! Just because of a few dead pigeons on the sidewalk, those asshats decide to evict that beautiful raptor and his mate.

:grr:

4. C'mon, you know what's going to happen next.
Poisoned pigeons or a sniper will make sure that new nest never gets used.

5. Didn't someone in that post yesterday say that
some time ago a law was passed saying that those type of nests couldn't be destroyed? Not that laws mean anything to those hoity-toity types....

Please keep us posted. I'm curious to know what happens to these beautiful animals too.

9. If I recall correctly from the piece I saw on NBC News last night.....
the bldg owners got an engineer to state that the nest was a hazard to the building and/or pedestrians below. This is probably how they got around the wildlife conservancy issues.

7. Eleven years, and . . .
. . . they want the bird to relocate? That's disgraceful!

8. It's not going to work.
There used to be metal points (to keep away pigeons) on that ledge, and those helped to keep the nest material in place. The metal points were taken away, along with the nest. The nesting material he's bringing now will quickly be blown off the ledge. What is hoped will happen is either another building nearby will put up the necessary metal points or Pale Male will relocate to a tree in the same area.

That being said, taking down his long-time very successful nest was shameful. A pox on those people!

10. How could he build his nest there?
They said that the reason Pale Male built his nest there in the first place was because there were these strong metal stakes that Pale Male used for the base of his nest (the stakes were there to discourage Pigeon roosting). When Pale Male was evicted they removed those stakes

12. It may not work, but he's trying. That's his home.
Plus, birds are creatures of habit; I'm sure they're not happy about their routine being disrupted.
