In my free time away from DU, I run a website about a certain subject which I am not going to share, because I keep my online interests seprate. I have spent a crapload of money on maintaining it and I enjoy doing it. The other day I was asked to participate in sending a "gift" to someone, who in all likleyhood, will never see it. It is just to strole the ego's of those who are sending the gift and I just roll my eyes at the whole idea. If anything, I would want to donate something in the name of this person to their charity of choice, not give a useless gift that will never be seen by the person. These people know I am in a shitty financial situation and am unemployed and do not have the 20 bucks to spare so the person who arranged this can have an ego boost. This has happened before and I have politely declined, but I am offended that I and my site am included in this. What is the nicest way to brush this off without the person hating me and also keeping the focus away from my site? I run this site as a hobby and a way to keep my html skills up. Not to be recognized or participate in something like this.:eyes:

" Thank you, no. "
I'm not certain how or why any of the other information you provided fits in with your perceived inability to politely decline to participate in donating money for the gift, but I can't think of any way it would be relevant. In any situation in which someone asks for a contribution, the askee has the option of accepting (and contributing) or declining.
Any offense is purely in the eye of the asker, and completely out of the askee's control. No explanations are ever needed for either contributing or declining.
