We got our first snow of the year October 17th, and have had several good snowfalls so far since... including over 8 inches last week.
So I am rooting for one. :-)

7. Hey ZombyWoof- Shouldn't you be brewing some coffee? |
|
Hazelnut please, and a bagel to go with it. ;-) Good to see you again.
But about the snow... I thought you were in Arizona now (?) If so, you must be in the mountainous area (?)

And the bagel. ;-)
Yes, I am in AZ. Northern AZ is the southern part of the Colorado plateau. Where I live is 7,000 feet, and next to the San Francisco Peaks, home of the ski resort called The Snow Bowl. :-) We're in the midst of the world's largest ponderosa pine forest. So when it snows, it does look like a Christmas card.
The Grand Canyon (about 60 miles northwest of me) also gets snow, and is beautiful when it does.
Last year was fairly dry, but this winter is off to an early start. When it's clear at night, we get single digit temps or less. I had posted a thread a few weeks ago about the morning it was one degree. :scared:
This is the GOOD part of the state. I don't want anything to do with Phoenix or the desert. :D

my son went to NAU for a couple of years and was a ski instructor at AZ Snobowl. Now he's at Humboldt State on the No. Calif coast. I have to agree with you about the scenery up your way. Nicer than here down south of Tucson.

Especially due to the fact that if it gets too cold you can always take a day or weekend trip to warmer climes (I assume) I don't blame you for disliking the desert areas though. Some people say it has it's own kind of beauty but w/only a few exceptions during the week I spent in Tucson, I rarely saw that except in the evenings. It wasn't just unbearably hot, it was also kind of ugly IMHO. The surrounding mtns were pretty but all that cacti and parched brown shrubery... it just seemed so uninviting to me somehow.
It's very beautiful where I live too- My home is in the foothills of the Northern Appalachian Mtn range. Obviously our Mtn range is nowhere near the elevation you are in (4k feet at a nearby ski resort) But there are alot of rolling hills and small mtns. We're also not too high up or too northern to have the beautiful hardwoods intermingled with some Pine. It's very rural too. In my entire (former) legislative district (which was about the size of Rhode Island) there was not a single traffic light. Just rivers, mtns and 100's of lakes.
Oh my... What a motormouth! I think I've overindulged myself with your excellent coffee! Bagel was good too. Thanks :-)

when I was small. It didn't snow on Christmas, but a couple of days before.
That's the only white xmas I remember.
We have had some years where we had flurries and a light dusting. That's pretty. I doubt we'll have that though, because it's been fairly warm, 10+ degrees so far.

 To be honest, I'm getting sick of cold weather. The older I get, the more I hate the cold and snow and all the annoyances of it. I'm still only in my early 30's too, so I suppose once I'm 60 or 70, I'll be one of those ladies that wears a sweater all Summer long (or I'll live someplace warmer :D).

have been white so far. There's a ton of snow up in the mountains - all the ski areas have opened - but there's no snow here. Temps in the high 40s. We've had a few days of rain.

When we do get snow here (Los Gatos, CA, bay area), it's only a dusting and generally confined to the mountain peaks. However, 4 years ago, we got a pretty good amount - probably 6 to 8 inches in the mountains and at least a couple of inches in town. It was thoroughly exciting for those who had never seen such a thing.
I lived on top of a mountain at the time and was snowed in for four days which I thought was a riot since I'd lived in Vermont for 38 years and had never been snowed in for more than one day. But back there, we had these things called "snowplows" and "snow tires"....
I don't see much chance of that this year, though. Most years, I go to the beach on Christmas.

I'm in the white shaded part of Maine- not far from the Quebec Border. We generally have snow for Christmas although there have a been few snowless ones within the past decade or so.
I like the snow for Christmas and New Years but wish it'd go away right after. Oh well.

So far it's been a mild winter. I bike everywhere and it's such a pain to swaddle up for deep space. Then there's a stretch into work that's never cleared. The melts and refreezes make it treacherous. It's so embarrassing when someone sees you do ice ballet, followed by a thump.

twice even! But the thing rarely does the snow last for more than a day except in shady patches around here. So in order to have a white Christmas, it absolutely must snow a lot on Christmas eve. And seeing how we get 6-8 inches of rain a year, the chances of it snowing on any given day, no matter how cold, are pretty small. The closest I can remember coming is having a few lone patches of snow and ice in the back yard on christmas morning.
The mountains are another story, they stay snowy pretty much all winter.
