I'm not sure if this was meant to be funny or serious but.... I don't want to be buried either. Crap, I don't want to be viewed after I am dead and some people rich for the rip off price of a casket. I'm donating by body to science, if they don't want it cremate me.
Funerals are a farce. I should get flamed for this.

6. I agree with you. I think one day in the near future the |
|
act of burial will be thought of as wasteful, morbid and just plain odd. :eyes:

19. In think funerals are more to help the people left behind, |
|
to help them through the grieving process--and of course to honor the life of their loved one. But I really don't understand why they are so expensive. My mom died last year and it cost $10,000! My dad was so sad, he wanted the best of everything! I don't want to be buried either...I want my ashes to be put in a beautiful field with flowers and trees and little bunnies and stuff.

I want a military send off - off the back of a Navy ship.
And I want the wind to turn at just the right moment and blow back over the fantail and everyone's nice dress whites, because I'm sadistic that way.
If my survivors don't want to do that, they can always sprinkle me over some old roses in a nice University botanical/medicinal garden and leave a plaque - if I don't have a backyard to be sprinkled over.
Ashes is the best way to go, all around. That is, as soon as any usable organs are taken for people who need them - if there are any by the time I leave.

12. One thing to keep in mind: cemeteries are greenspaces. |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 05:22 PM by Cuban_Liberal
I've never bought into the 'waste of space' argument, because cemeteries are greenspaces, just like parks are. That said, I personally want to be cremated.

17. Here's my plan--Christmas Balls |
|
I've told my family that I would like my ashes to either be placed into or made into Christmas Balls.
This way I can be passed down through the generations and brought out to brighten the holiday season.
They think I'm a little odd-But they have solemnly sworn they will do as I ask

20. I don't want to be embalmed |
|
Nor do I want to be buried in a lead lined casket. I would like to be buried in a plain pine box and allowed to rot into the soil and become fertilizer. I've never understood why we bury bodies in such a way that they stay intact so long.

21. They embalm for sanitary reasons and convenience, basically. |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 06:20 PM by Cuban_Liberal
We have a good friend who is a funeral director, and he says embalming is essentially a 'sanitary measure with benefits'.
