Phoenix exec dies in fall from atop moving car

December 11, 2004

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A top Phoenix city official died in a bizarre incident when he crawled out of his fast-moving car, stood atop its roof and extended his arms outward before tumbling off, authorities said.

Kevin Keogh, a 28-year city employee who started as a management intern and became its top financial manager, died at the scene after he fell from the vehicle and struck the pavement and a tree Wednesday afternoon, Scottsdale police said. He was 55.

It wasn't clear whether Keogh jumped or accidentally fell from his black Mercedes-Benz, which was traveling about 50 mph, police said.

(snip)

Police were called by a motorist who said his car was rear-ended by a black Mercedes at a stoplight, and that there was no driver inside. Officers found Keogh's body two blocks away. Witnesses said they saw Keogh standing on his moving car.

Police said it wasn't known whether the death was accidental or a suicide, or if alcohol or drugs were involved.

15. It Was Bad Enough Being Rear-Ended By A Guy Without Insurance
It happened two years ago Monday, and my attorney is still trying to clear the case.
