SNL: Hot or Not?

It hasn't been really funny for years, in my opinion.

1. some of the political skits are great

like the one they just had about Rumsfeld. The rest sucks.

3. lorne michaels once said "snl was NEVER that funny"

basically he balked at people getting all nostalgic for the early years, oh it was funny then but it's gone downhill.

lorne pointed out, correctly, that snl ALWAYS had skits that ran on too long, that took a single joke or theme and stretched it out beyond the point of repetitive boredom, and ALWAYS had repeat skits from week to week that relied far more on familiarity than actual humor.

having said that, very few of the snl performers over the years can hold a candle to the likes of belushi, akyroyd, radner, and murphy. as against that, the early seasons also had garrett morris, who was just not funny at all.

still, we tend to remember only the hilarious times, and forget all the lame why-didn't-i-go-to-sleep-right-after-weekend-update times.
