Who is your favorite liberal columnist or writer? |
|
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 01:56 AM by bobweaver
Whose columns or writings do you read consistently?
Jim Hightower? Adrianna Huffington? Greg Palast? Ted Rall? Thomas Frank? Mark Shields? Barbara Eirhenreich? (sp?) Scott Smith? Mike Duncan? Molly Ivins? James Goldsborough? Garrison Keiler? Sidney Blumenthal? William S. Greider? or....?
I'm trying to narrow it to writers who have regular columns, either in one publication or syndicated, or whose writings appear regularly and consistently, not just an occasional book here and there. Who do you keep up with?

10. HST is one of my gods |
|
But I consider him above ideology, which is a fine way to be. His concern isn't right vs. left so much as him vs. whatever vile and twisted bastards are against him.
I sure miss his ESPN.com football column, which was the only sports column worth a damn, since it was written neither by an ex-jock or failed wannabe jock-sniffer. It was written from the cold gambler's perspective with pure HST mainlining style.

15. I haven't looked in awhile |
|
But I couldn't find it when I looked at the beginning of the season. Used to be called "Hey Rube!"
I admit that since then, I haven't looked. Sportswriting is generally the bottom of a fetid barrel.

As a Charger fan, I am enjoying watching the Broncos and Raiders fall further behind. :P

And I like Molly Ivins, but I'd rather listen to her than read her.

Her book, "And So it Goes" is still my favorite book about the media bullshit. Your orginal list has plenty of heavyweights on it too-I just wish Ellerbee had more exposure these days.

16. I used to watch "NBC News Overnight" religiously in college! |
|
I worshipped her. I still have the column she wrote praising Frank Zappa the week he died over 11 years ago. Apparently, he used to watch that too, and would call her at her desk after the show with thoughts and criticism.
I don't hear much about her these days. Enjoyed that book myself.
And so it goes.

He was with the Des Moines Register for many years. Then after the conservative purge at that paper he now has his column in the Cityview as well as others: http://www.dmcityview.com/Main.asp?SectionID=55&SubSectionID=129&ArticleID=4800
