1. Since I Am Almost 40 Years Removed from Reading Comic Books |
|
(discounting 'underground' comics, that is), I can only rely on hazy recollections from that time. Even at that prepubescent age, however, I recognized differences between DC & Marvel comics.
DC Comics tended toward a black-or-white morality that left no ambiguity between the 'good guys' and the 'bad guys.' In some instances a helpless and clueless populace had no choice beyond depending on the superheroes to defeat the supervillains who threatened their idyllic realm.
On the other hand, Marvel Comics presented characters from both sides who were neither entirely good nor evil. Some were conflicted and faced personal problems, making them much more three-dimensional and human.
For this reason I identified with Marvel characters when I became acquainted with those comics. Despite DC's higher recognition factor outside the comic-book realm, I viewed myself as more hip and sophisticated for preferring the Marvel characters & storylines than my contemporaries still reading DC Comics. Alas, even Marvel's outside-the-box characters couldn't hold my attention once I discovered cinema & music at about age 11.

4. Marvel of friggin course |
|
I don't even have to think for a second. Cause DC is lame, ultra-lame. All it's heroes anyone has heard of were designed in the 30's. And they wear capes and underwear on the outside of their tights, well the men do. And Wonder Woman isn't as hot or have as cool powers as someone like Storm.

Reason 1: VERTIGO titles
Reason 2: WILDSTORM titles
Marvel has no sense of quality control, often publishing something noteworthy only amidst a pile of utter tripe. I have a difficult time forgiving them for the clone saga from the mid 90s, and just think they're too susceptible to industry trends, too willing to buck continuity and good storytelling if they think they can sell books--and also, WOLVERINE OVERKILL
also, INDIAN SPIDER-MAN
Astonishing X-Men's pretty good though
OK, so this has little to do w/ which Universe I'd rather live in and more to do w/ which publisher I think is generally better.
Have you been following Identity Crisis? Who killed Sue Dibney?

Then I could have a sweetass costume like the Flash. I think Captain America may honestly have the dumbest costume I have ever seen. Not only are his ears sticking out but it has fish scales (only Aquaman is allowed to have fish scales.)

His costume is not great but DC is ultra-lame throughout.

12. I have not seriously read comics in years |
|
I have a few trades but I can say that I equally like both companies. When I was a kid it was all about Batman, Superman, Spider-man and X-Men so I was pretty evenhanded. Plus, DC published Watchman and Dark Knight Returns (which I had to read this semester for an American Lit class) and both are amazing works of art.

15. Which one was SIlver Surfer? |
|
Okay, I'll admit it--I don't remember ANYTHING about the comic books I used to read, but Silverr Surfer's on the cover of Joe Satriani's "Surfing with Alien."
That's enough for me. Well that and I think Shalla Bal is a charcter too--am I right?
On the other hand, has anybody seen the Lords of Acid's "VooDoo U?"
Whoa. ;)

They have/had some real cool supernatural-mystical super heroes that had their origins from the 1940's...
