Miracle on 34th Street tonight on AMC!
One of the best Christmas movies of all time. The only one I believe is in the same league is It's A Wonderful Life.

What's your favorite?

3. Magoo?
What about the gruff yet Shakespearean George C. Scott?

4. A Christmas Story
is my personal favorite. I was a kid in the 50s in the midwest. It really captures the feel of the time.

9. It's a Wonderful Life
hands down, for me. It shows that everyone touches other people, in ways they don't even realize. We're all connected and we all matter. Every life has value.

11. They're also running "A Christmas Carol" (aka Scrooge) before it!
And both are in the original Black and White, as they should be!

The "Scrooge" (original British title) stars Alistair Sim, the Gold Standard performance for that role. It's my favorite Xmas movie, with "Miracle" a close second. Edmund Gwenn, Maureen O'Hara, John Payne -- accept no substitutes. :)

13. Absolutely!
And that little Natalie Wood is an absolute cutie!

I can't remember the Judge's name. William Frawley (Fred Mertz for the kiddies who watch Lucy on TVLand) was his political handler. Those two did a bunch of movies together in the 40's - studio contracts and all that - but they were a very workable team.

14. Judge's character was played by Gene Lockhart
...father of June.

Also played Bob Cratchit in the Reginald Owen version of "A Christmas Carol"

19. Interesting to note that Kathleen Lockhart (Gene's wife)
played Mrs. Cratchit, and June played one of the Cratchit children.

17. Too Bad AMC Went To Being A Commercial-Supported Network
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 04:51 PM by arwalden
It was a much better network when it competed directly with TCM as a commercial-free premium channel. Their selection of movies was better, and I really enjoyed "Remember WENN".

PS: That's one of my favorite Christmas movies!
