Advice on neighbor problem |
|
I'm rather new here and don't post much. I finally have article posting privileges!
I'm desperate about a problem with the next door neighbor. They continually let their dogs out to do their business in my yard because they're too lazy to walk 10 feet to their fenced back yard. I've had the dog warden out here several times, and they've been ticketed.
The neighbor on the other side of us just told me that their dogs were in our yard continually last week while we were both away at work. I know it's not the dogs' fault, I have dogs too. My dogs go out in our fenced back yard, where they belong.
Why are some people so nasty to live next to? We did nothing to them, and asked them countless times nicely to not let their dogs in our yard. After a year of asking, I finally called the dog warden. He came out and ticketed them more than once, but the problem remains.
Short of selling our house and moving, what can I do? Should I get an attorney involved? I'm angry and frustrated. Thanks.

4. City ordinance doesn't allow fences in the front yard |
|
Fences have to start at the front corner of your house, go around the back yard, and stop at the other front corner. Not an option.

2. You could have a neighbor report the dogs as strays |
|
If you talk to another neighbor and set it up, you could have them call the dog catcher/warden and report them as strays. If they get sent to the pound, your nuisance neighbor may think twice about letting them loose. That guy is lucky that he doesn't live in an area that practices the 3S method (shoot, shovel, shut up).

He's lucky I'm not the type of person to take it out on their dogs.

8. Could you electrify your yard boundaries? |
|
Put up little posts, string wires between them. Put it at ground level so it isn't visible. A dog will only need to be zapped one time and that will keep him away permanently. My dad did this to our yard when I was a kid to keep the neighbor's dog out. It worked. The other option is to wait and shoot the dog with a bb gun when it enters your yard. That works too but it may get you into legal trouble, depending on where you live.
And welcome to DU! :)

11. Thank you for the welcome |
|
I guess I need to talk to an attorney. I don't know if they're legal in the city. I know we have a law against discharging a fire arm in the city limits, but I'm not sure if that applies to BB guns. I really don't want to hurt the dogs, but if a couple BB's will do the trick, I might consider it.
The electric fence is a good idea too.

you should check out the "kill" policy of your local animal control. Sometimes they do not give owners very much time to reclaim "lost" pets.

7. Have you tried a chemical alternative? |
|
Not on the neighbors, but on their dogs. I've heard there are products that one can spray around the perimeter of a lawn and dogs won't cross it. You might try this.

9. I've not heard of such a chemical |
|
I'll try finding something about it on line. Thank you. As I've said, I don't want to hurt their dogs.

12. Home Depot has something |
|
called "Dog-B-Gone" that works pretty well. Cayenne pepper, or mace sprayed on the grass also will work, although not for long. You need to re-apply every week or so.

10. Something like this was mentioned on radio |
|
several years ago. A neighbor was doing the samething, but they dropped their keys while the dog did its duty, well, the person who owned the house, picked up the keys, the dog stuff and put them in a bag and mashed it all together. The owner then went to house and delivered the package.
Keep watch or get hold of their keys!
