1. It depends what you want to do with it.
Are you looking for a SLR or just a point and shoot? Do you just want to put them on the web, or do you want to print them at photo quality. If so, up to what size? Also, what is your price range?

2. Canon
I own two canons and they're the best. Check out this website to compare cameras you're thinking of buying.

6. I'll agree on both points...
Canon and DPReview. Both excellent.

3. Nikon
D100 large bucks
D70 smaller bucks

Both SLR with interchangable lenses. Excellent cameras. Go to nikon.com and you can check out various models on their comparison chart.

4. Hello
I bought a Kodak 443LS Easy Share cam (4 megapixel) a year or so ago and I love the pics it takes. This model is discontinued but I'd imagine the ones they sell now are even better(and cheaper I think).

5. Depends on the model, but Nikon or Canon would be the best. But,
I'd stick with film until (a) prices become REASONABLE and (b) film quality (color saturation, shadows, and highlights) becomes comparable or superior to film.

7. Actually, you can pick up a nice prosumer digital SLR for under $1500
and if you're not printing larger than 8x10, you'll never see the difference.

All that, and the benefit (and cost savings) of never having to deal with film.

10. We got a Sony Cybershot last christmas
it's 3.1 megapixels and has a zoom and a flash and it cost about $150 give or take. It's a GREAT camera and I highly reccomend it. I totally love sony products to begin with and haven't ever had a problem with them. The camera takes different sizes of pictures, so you can get full=sized or you can get smaller pictures if you're just going to send them in email. It also takes MPEG movies with sound, and you can take still pictures but record sound to go with it as well.

At the same time last year, a friend of ours got a HP camera of some kind and they paid like $250 for theirs, but they found its limitations frustrating.
