1. I've heard the jammers are a scam. They make you EASIER to detect
Here's one source:

Nope. No "passive radar jammer" does anything at all. They're a complete waste of money. If they worked, the US Air Force would be strapping 'em onto fighter planes.

And yet, as you say, they're often illegal, generally because the FCC (or other similar regulatory body, in other countries) simply takes the fraudulent claims of the manufacturers literally, determines that a device that does what this device is claimed to do would be illegal, and so bans them!

Here's an example of such a ruling, against a better-known brand of passive jammer, which also didn't actually work.

2. 100% WORTHLESS WASTE OF MONEY:
Lasers work at a straight line and MUST HIT the detector to even register. Only if the sensor is placed in very close proximity to the license plate or headlight will it really register; and by then the laser detector's got you pegged.

As for radar? Oh yeah, a 1 mile distance is great... but increasingly the fuzz is using airborne methods of detection, particularly around well travelled roads. Your radar detector can be 360 degrees on the X axis, but it doesn't know there's a Z axis.

Waste of money.

$100 for a cruise control option would be money better spent, IMHO.

7. "Jammers" are illegal.
Even if they don't work (which, as a "passive" device, they don't)
It's the INTENT, not the actual function that gets the FCC involved. They market it as a "jammer", so by golly, a jammer it IS...
And all a laser detector does, to qoute the owner's manual of my Escort, is to inform you that blinking lights will be following you soon.

Detectors can't keep up with changes in tactics, no matter how good they are. Now, cops wait until you're close enough to get an instant reading before they trigger their radar, so when your bird dog yelps, it's too late...

10. My two cents is to go Valentine One
Never heard of Rocky Mountain; not that that means anything, of course. I have always been pleased with the performance of the Valentines, though. I'm only talking about detectors here; BL don't know 'bout those jamming claims.

I heartily recommend checking out Car & Driver's website message boards; also Automobile's baords, though heavily moderated and controlled, may be useful to you.
