Watching "The Magdalene Sisters" on Starz. What a depressing flick! |
|
It's also a true story! Here's the plot summary from IMDB:
Ireland in the sixties: Four women are given into the custody of the Madgalene sisterhoood asylum to correct their more or less sinful behaviour: Crispina and Rose have given birth to a pre-marriage child, Margaret got raped by her cousin and the orphan Bernadette had been repeatedly caught flirting with the boys. All have to work in a laundry under the strict supervision of the nuns, who break their wills through sadistic punishments. Some of the inmates develop countermeasures, while others perish under the treatment.
I can't believe this happened as recently as the 1960s! It may as well be the Middle Ages-the nuns are so sadistic. I don't know whether to recommend it or not. It is a good movie, but the treatment of these girls is unbearable to watch at times.

1. Oh I heard about that and have wanted to see it. |
|
Sad part is that some of those places I think where in use up until the early 80's

what a bunch of EVIL nuns!! There is a certain part of the movie I found very hard to watch. I won't mention it since I don't want to spoil it if it hasn't happened yet.

3. There's already been a couple |
|
the haircut, the humiliation scene where the two nuns subject the adolescent girls to bodily criticism, and "you're not a man of God".
Holy shit!

6. Imagine doing that to adolescents? The emotional abuse in this movie |
|
is far worse than the physical abuse.
