WEST COVINA, Calif. -- A California boy is turning Christmas lore into cash.

Eleven-year-old Alec Nystrom is selling lumps of coal for 50 cents from a stand in front of his home about 20 miles east of Los Angeles.

So far he's made about $100, which he's put toward the cost of a dirt bike.

The boy says he got the idea of selling coal from his father, who said he'd been warned as a child that coal would be in his Christmas stocking if he didn't behave.

The boy got the coal supplies from his dad's art supplies.

He says one person bought 20 pieces for a Christmas party.
