Poll question: Salvador Dali - Visionary Pioneer or King of the Sell-Outs?
The man who the Surrealists, at first embraced, and later rearranged the letters of his name to spell "Avida Dollars (Greedy Dollars)" - what's your take?

3. Could be - and that would make him a REAL genius. To be true to your art
and be fabulously wealthy - doesn't sound so bad to me

5. i don't really know all the facts
but i think he lost his mind in the end, and a lot of the people around him ripped off his work. so many of his reproductions were done without any input from or output to him.

6. exactly...
much like how people complain when they hear their favorite underground musican's music being played on a commercial.

"Oh my god I heard an Aphex Twin song being used in an anti-drug commercial, what a sell out!!"(the irony of an Aphex Twin song being used in an anti-drug commercial being, apparantly, too much for some people).
I know that everyone has the romantic idea of the starving artist, but folks, artists like to eat too.

Dali-best of both worlds. Creative genius whose fucked up mind reached a lot of people. Gotta love it.

4. He seemed to have too much joie de vivre to be a sellout.
If he were, my feeling is that he probably would've lost his creative spark.
