Anyone planning on watching "Phanton of the Opera" movie?
It comes out in a week or so. I won't be going I'm sure. I never go to the theater. I haven't been since Titanic was out. But thats just me. Anyone planning on watching it? Or avoiding it?

1. We're talking Andrew Lloyd Webber here...
A resounding no.

6. I think old Andrew has one basic score...
and just sort of tweaks it for each show. :-)

8. Plus....I made the horrible mistake of seeing the film version of "Evita"
and that...was...

Oh, God, that was unspeakably bad. :-)

9. I have seen it
I will say I had low expectations for it. I couldn't wait for Madonna to die at the end.

24. I think Roger Waters said it best:
Lloyd-Webber's awful stuff
Runs for years and years and years
An earthquake hits the theater
But the operetta lingers
Then the piano lid comes down
And breaks his fucking fingers
It's a miracle!
Another miracle…

7. I will do as I always do
Wait for it to come out on video. I hate going to the movies - overpriced ticket, overpriced snacks, overpriced drinks, a bunch of people making noise and getting up right at the critical moments.

It used to be fun when it was affordable. To me, it's no longer fun.

11. That is a lot of why I don't go
Plus, if the movie is bad, such as with "Day After Tomorrow" I would feel so ripped off.

Glad to see you are around. I thought you had me on ignore or something. I responded to you yesterday with what I thought a somewhat witty response and you never wrote back.

18. no biggie.. here is what it was
On Kleeb's thread about not being able to say no to the Navy recruiter, you wrote not being able to say no is what lead you to having three kids. I responded if you had three kids by the Navy recruiter then you really do have a problem saying no. Or something like that. I can't find it now. Not a big deal. :hi:

16. Will definitely be going to watch it.
Unabashed ALW fan here. Loved "Evita". Loved Madonna in "Evita".

And although I don't think "Phantom" is anywhere close to being ALW's best score ("Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Aspects of Love" hold that honor IMHO) it is still good quality. I'm anxious to see what they do with it.

17. Yes
I'm looking forward to it. I took my children to Phantom of the Opera many years ago. We were in SF, I was annoyed my husband was playing golf because I finally realized how much golf costs, so I decided to splurge on a matinee. We got half priced tickets and sat in the second row. That play sparked a music and drama interest in both my daughters. We've since seen better plays.
