Is there a doctor in the house ? My toes are swollen . |
|
Yes they are swollen - I just took my socks off and felt my toes , looking at them and they are swollen to the point that they look like light bulbs lol . - Not funny but they feel funny when I wiggle them . Has this happen to anyone else before ?

11. Doesn't sound like gout |
|
Gout usually hits around the ankles and is excruciatingly painful. However, it can hit at any age. I have a friend who has suffered from gout since his early twenties or perhaps his teens. It's more common in men, though.

20. COULD be gout if you've been eating too much protein, or could be |
|
water retention; too much caffiene, not enough water, will cause this.

26. i had the gout in my toes.... |
|
Drink cherry Juice.....
Something in the makeup of cherries helps break up the crystals that gather in your joints when there in on onset of gout....
It's very painful, extremely painful.....
Myone bout with the gout lasted about two days and hasn't returned. That was seven or eight years ago......
It's caused by the same thing that causes kidney stones.....

3. Both feet? All your toes? |
|
Shoes too tight? Been on your feet for a long period?
If it was a spider bite or something, it would be localized.

21. If you're on your feet that long... |
|
Check with an orthopedist. You may need some sort of arch support or shoe inserts. You might need to start doing some exercises if there's something else wrong; the wrong sort of pressure on the hips or spine, one leg that's significantly shorter than the other can seriously affect the feet. If it's a tendonitis sort of issue, there might be some special socks or specific types of shoes you should be wearing - even at your young age. Foot problems are a life-long misery if you don't stay on top of them.
And get someone to massage your feet on a regular basis! That does wonders.

16. A doctor would ask you what you had been doing - |
|
And check for bruising. Swelling is usually a sign of inflammation (from stress or injury) or of some sort of allergic reaction (from, say, a spider bite). If you're seeing bruising, losing feeling in the toes, or feeling pains, there's been some heavy duty stress to your foot. Also, if you see streaky bruising or red vein marking up the foot, see a doctor immediately.
 If I hadn't dropped something heavy on them (causing the swelling because I broke a bone!), or if I didn't know I had some sort of arthritic condition that would cause swelling after strenuous activity, I'd see a doctor if a cold foot bath (do not take a hot bath if your foot is swelling) doesn't bring the swelling down within forty minutes to an hour. If the swelling goes down, you can follow up with a nice, toasty, Epsom-salt filled foot bath to sooth the muscles. If the swelling doesn't go down, only goes down a bit, or the top of your foot feels like a broken, rusty, hinge - high thee to a doctor. If you think you might have frostbite on your toes, go see a doctor, don't bother with the baths.
I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. But I do occasionally get foot numbness and/or swelling when it's hot or when I overdo the walking.
Hope you feel better.

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor but I slept with one for several years. We used to joke when I gave out half baked medical advise that I got my degree in medicine from the "lance and leech school of medicine from the 1500's."
But seriously, take a big pot and fill it with hot (not too) water, epsoms salts, baking soda (2 parts to 1 part), a smattering of dr. bronners' peppermint soap, and maybe some vitamin E oil.(last two items are optional)
Soak 'em. You're probably retaining water for some dietary reasons. Try garlic supplements (increasing circulation) and maybe some vitamin E. Drink alot of water. Foot massages from a friend may help.
Hope you feel better !

22. OK the doctor finally came home and I didn't get crap |
|
for lunch but I did get toe info. Here goes:
Arthritis Gout (tol ya you got da gout) infection trauma just toes? or fingers also? peripheral edema (usually involves entire foor)
tight shoes across arch, blood goes into the toes but doesn't go back well
Elevated feet and stop wearing skinny shoes, on breaks elevate feet above hips.
Ya got da gout I tell ya. Anyway this info provided by a doctor who has actually seen dead people, now send me 20 bucks.

23. I had numbness in my big toe a few weeks ago |
|
so I start looking stuff up and all signs point to gout, so naturally I start freaking out. I end up reading all this stuff about if you eat a lot of protein and drink too much booze (which I do both of) then it can cause gout.
I call up my dad (who is a PA/CNP) and ask him what is going on. He starts laughing at me, asking me if I've worn any different shoes or anything like that.
I wore these dress shoes that were a little too small, turns out I just had some type of pinched nerve or something that was causing me to lose feeling.
It was scary though :(

24. OK I had the gout about 8 years ago |

If you have the gout - there would be no doubt in your mind that is was gout. It is the MOST EXCRUCIATING pain in the whole world. It's a form of arthritis and it usually attacks a joint. Usually the big toe. Yes your foot can swell but usually it's a toe that is effected. You would not be able to stand let alone touch your foot if it was gout. It hurts even to have air blow across your foot.
It's not gout - IMHO - but it could be a form of edema. I would see a Doctor if I were you.
