7. It's a shitty movie
Who cares? I'm sure God has a good eye for quality cinema. This piece of shit was an abomination of film. No character development (not everybody is completely familiar w/ Jesus Christ) and no character exploration (same reason). Not to mention that the whole film was a chronicle of a torture. I guess it may make the religious feel really guilty, but others just find it repulsive (this is coming from someone who can take a lot of violence on film).

16. Totally agree with you
I was less bothered by the so-called anti-Semitism (which was SO over-hyped by critics of the film) than I was by the fact that people were lauding a mediocre film as some kind of masterpiece.

Like you, I'm not particularly offended by violence, but the violence in this film seemed like a cheap way to elicit emotion from people who go into the film with a deeply personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It was a substitute for the hard work of character development, which would elicit sympathy for Christ and his followers from ALL viewers, WITHOUT the extreme violence.

Cheap, violent Christian porn.

20. It was scary to hear people talk about it after they saw it.
(I didn't see it. Roger Ebert said it was the most violent film he'd ever seen, and that was all the info I needed.)

But I know a number of bushco-loving so-called Christians who fell all over themselves going to see The Passion the minute it was released. They came back acting like they'd been on seriously bad acid trips and seen Jesus in the flesh. They felt shivers of delightful feelings of guilt and horror and moral superiority over everybody else. "Look what Jesus suffered for me! Wow!"

Extremely unhealthy encouragement of psychotic narcissism, imo.

I do think that Mel's over-hyped snuff film contributed to chimpy's win.

Churches all over the south took busloads of parishioners to see the movie. So-called Christian families took their kids!

21. Yeah
I wanted to see it because I don't like people telling me not to see something and I like to see things for myself. Besides, a friend of mine who goes to bible study got me a ticket for free (along w/ trying to get me to go to bible study w/ her). Anyway, it was put on by a Christian business association. Most everybody in the theater (not me, I had my hands over my eyes and I wanted to leave) was weeping. The Passion was made to make Christians feel guilty. It's not a good film.

10. Other. God wasn't surprised but doesn't care.

The followers of Jesus were told, by Jesus, thay they be would be hated just as Jesus was.

14. Jesus doesn't need to be reminded over and over and over again
about what happened. He has a pretty good memory.

17. I don't think God is a micromanager.
I don't believe He's necessarily interested in whether "The Passion" or Mel Gibson wins any awards.
