You Can Now Become A Lord - For $76
<snip>

THE British aristocracy has long been an exclusive club but now anyone can become a Lord or Lady - for as little as £30 ($76).

A raft of British websites are offering one square foot of the Glencairn Estate in north-east Scotland and with it, access to the prestigious-sounding title of Lord/Laird and Lady of Glencairn.

Buyagift.co.uk is offering the "fun" title as the "ideal gift for anyone who aspires to greatness" for £29.99 ($76).

The "gift" includes a deed of ownership, a map of the Glencairn estate and a card which proves their title.

One incensed aristocrat is fighting back at what he sees is a scam and is warning potential shoppers that buying the title of Lord, Viscountess, Baron or Earl is meaningless.

2. Sounds good to me...
Now we can annoy the snooty upperclass of British society with our titles.

4. Not really
>>>Now we can annoy the snooty upperclass of British society with our titles.<<<

The true aristos have the class and breading not to care at all, the snooty parts of British society are pretty much all members of the middle-classes.

Anyway, people who know anything about titles realise that these Scottish 'lairdships' are nothing to do with genuine titles; they tend to laugh at those who buy them, forgive me for saying so, especially Americans.

7. To quote from Bart Simpson...
"You obviously have no experience causing a scene." I am very good at getting under people's skin. I work overseas and have been in Britain on several occassions. I can be extremely caustic when I try. I could find a hundred ways to aggrevate people with a title.

6. Michael Moore is one
He did that on one of his television shows and went over there and introduced himself to his new subjects. It was a rather rundown part of a fairly large city if I remember right. He took a bunch of them to the pub for drinks.

11. It's the trifecta of scams!
1) It's meaningless, and

2) You're buying useless real estate, and

3) It's sexist because it's marketed to "Lords!"

:D
