Festivus was a fictional holiday created by Frank Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller) on the popular American television comedy Seinfeld. Some fans of the show now celebrate this fictional holiday in real life.
Festivus is a holiday held on 23 December of each year. It was created as a response to the commercialism of the other December holidays. Its slogan is "A Festivus for the rest of us."
The Festivus celebration includes three major components:
The Festivus Pole. During Festivus, an unadorned aluminum pole is displayed, apparently in opposition to the commercialization of decorated Christmas trees, and because the holiday's creator, Frank Costanza, "finds tinsel distracting."
The Airing of Grievances. At the Festivus dinner, the celebrant tells their friends and family all of the instances where they disappointed the celebrant that year.
The Feats of Strength. The head of the family tests his or her strength against one participant of the head's choosing. Festivus is not considered over until the head of the family has been pinned. A participant is allowed to decline to attempt to pin the head of the family only if they have something better to do instead.

Alas it has been discontinued--destroying the hopes and dreams of all the little children at Festivas time. Please for the love of God if you have a minute, drop them an e-mail and ask them to bring back the luscious gingerbready goodness that once was.

9. They had a brain fart over this one |

What human being in their right mind would have gotten rid of this wonderful concoction.
It was traditional in my house-hold. When we couldn't find it this year, my daughter and I were distraught. A little dish of joy was sucked from our Holiday experience.
I know some Republican made this decision.......those....Joy Suckers.

These traditions go back past pre-aluminum pole times. It's hard to keep the faith when family values and traditions are slowly eroded.

12. My family actually celebrates Festivus |

We have a pole and everything. It's a good reason to give gag gifts. Or just fill a box with junk you find throughout the year, call it "The Box," and wrap it in duct tape and newspaper.

Just watch "The Strike" Seinfeld episode or get the script from http://wave.prohosting.com/tnguym/Scripts/TheStrike.htmland act it out on December 23rd. Buy a pole from a home store. BTW, :yourock:
