Q. What's worse than a freeper who can't spell?
A. A freeper with a thesaurus.

LTTE in the Richmond Times-Dispatch today:

"Editor, Times-Dispatch: Regarding the In Brief featuring an anti-Bush-voter quote by Linda Ronstadt: Other than our right, as citizens of a free Republic, to express personal opinions on domestic and international issues, what, in the name of all that is reasonable and understandable, leads Ms. Ronstadt to believe herself an intellectual savant? Her egocentric diatribes suggest, by presumption, a credible knowledge and the authority to bloviate. I can conclude only that insatiable egoism prompts her infantile analyses.
While her vocal talents far outstrip her intellectual acumen, it's nonetheless sad that her mellifluous voice deteriorates so abruptly in making the non-stop from A-sharp to B-flat. Perhaps it's just the visceral urge to believe herself both encyclopedic and ultra-intellectually endowed. Bill Bartholomay. richmond."

12. which is EXACTLY why Coulter is able to perpetuate her
myth of 'crushing intellect. Her audience figures if they have to look up the words, she must be smart. For a chick, of course.

9. Terrible writing. Orwell is turning in his grave as we speak.
They're trying so hard to sound smart it's funny, but whoever wrote this needs to take a writing class ASAP right after getting a clue. I guess they have to try compensating for flawed logic somehow.

11. Last one, I promise:
This is in response to a young girl who wrote in about her bad experiences as a Kerry supporter, when running into our friendly neighborhood freepers at the polling place. The freepers stole her signs and replaced them with Bush signs. This letter also confirms my theory that the right wing rag that is the Richmond TD will publish any piece of shit that comes in with an "age ___" attached to it.

"Editor, Times-Dispatch: Regarding Sarah Haacks' letter: It is entirely natural that compassionate conservatives should have taken down the signs upon her departure from the school on Election Day. How should they have known when or if she was returning? In their compassion, they wished to create space for any other groups of idio - oh, excuse me, Democrats - with signs.
Slightly more seriously, every politician is delighted that young people such as Sarah and I are involved in the democratic process. Conservatives, however, the compassionate people we are, merely mourn her decision to install such stupidity as the Democratic Party espouses into what could have been a bright, young mind.

Quite aside from all of this, those conservatives with whom she interacted surpass their reputation in comparison to the liberals I encountered while campaigning at Farrington Firehouse on Election Day. Mind you, these people claim to understand, sympathize with, and support the common man. But only if he campaigns and/or votes for Democrats, right? Annie L. Wilhite, Age 16. ashland."

Since we're lowering the discourse, I'll do her one better: someone needs to slap that little cunt right out of her mom's SUV.

I can't believe anyone can write like that. OK, so she's 16. That means she needs to work harder in English.

Now, a 16 year old boy I might find a little more believable.

BTW, what's up Richard.

PS: After Sarah starting sharing her story, a bunch of like mindeds drove around and took down Bush signs. I DID NOT condone this teenage 'prank', but I did not condemn it either.

13. Hey Bill Bartholemay
you pompous, pretentious, arrogant, self-important, haughty, snobbish, affected, ostentatious, portentous, immodest, egotistical, big headed, supercilious prick.

Here in America, absolutely anyone is allowed to have a political opinion, unfortunately, including you. Since there is no credible test or requirement for intellectual savant-ism in holding a political opinion (yee haw I made that word up), your entire premise devolved into a rather biting criticism of yourself.

Congratulations on your verbal darwinism.

17. That looks like its from some auto text generator on the web
I'm going to start using the Postmodernism Generator at http://www.elsewhere.org/cgi-bin/postmodern/ to develop my letters to the editor.

For example:

Editors,

In the election of Bush, a predominant concept is the distinction between closing and opening. In a sense, the subject is contextualised into a dialectic capitalism that includes sexuality as a paradox. The characteristic theme of the works of Gaiman is the difference between sexual identity and reality.

If one examines neodeconstructivist theory, one is faced with a choice: either accept the pretextual paradigm of consensus or conclude that truth is intrinsically responsible for sexist perceptions of class. It could be said that the subject is interpolated into a modern deconstruction that includes consciousness as a totality. The main theme of Wilson's<1> model of neodeconstructivist theory is the rubicon, and eventually the dialectic, of dialectic sexual identity.

Sincerely,
Politicub

21. Gotta be a thesaurus.
Really...I know what all those words mean...and even I don't write like that. You write for your audience, not yourself. Any educated person with a fully-functional vocabulary may throw in the occasional word or phrase of the type we used to call "that's a one-dollar word" :) but if you catch yourself using too many in one sentence, you revise. Unless, of course, you're writing your term paper on semiotics. :)

24. Yep.
I know what they mean too, but I seldom have occasion to say things like bloviate.

(By the way, my husband and I usually refer to those as five-dollar words. Must be inflation. ;) )
