Its 75 degs and not a cloud in the sky.
My 18 yr old son ONLY wears shorts, unless he has to go to a job interview or something of that sort.

I'm just north of the UTC mall looking toward the North County coast.

BTW - I'm not wearing shorts, rather BDU pants and a T-shirt. I have a sweatshirt in case it's cold when I leave work, but left it in my truck.

16. Maybe I'm just older or maybe cause I'm from CA, but when I'm out
with thermals, 4 layers of clothes and see someone with shorts and a tee, it makes me feel kind of weird. What I don't get are the ones with
a ski parka on and still wearing shorts.

24. I assume you mean in a cold climate. Pick one:
1. Refuses to admit he doesn't live in California (or Florida) any more
2. Thinks his knees are his best feature
3. Wishful thinking - "if I dress like this, maybe it will be warm"
4. All his long pants are in the laundry hamper

We had one of these mid-winter shorts wearers in our lab years ago at MIT. He was indeed from California, and he never got over it. He provided a good index of just how cold the temp was. If his knees weren't visible, we knew it was time for a stone-cold blizzard, because that's what it took to get him to put on the long pants. Iced-over knees can be annoying, I guess.

I drove past him the other day as he was running along the road. His naked back was bright red from the cold. Other drivers were all slowing down to get a load of the crazy man.

28. LeftyDad does that
he grew up in the midwest so he doesn't really percieve winter here as cold.

Likewise in his home town people complain when the projected high is eighty and I walk around in long sleeves and pants wishing it would warm up.

Shorts are comfortable and I wear them in the home. I LOVE COLD WEATHER. If I'm going to run to the store, or post office, or something, I'm not going to change clothes. I'm not out in the cold long enough for it to "get to me."

I walked out of my house the other day in 30 degree weather in shorts and a T-shirt, and my neighbor yelled, "When are you going to put some clothes on."

Edit: I'm a "large" guy (translation = fat) and I think that makes a difference. More insulation. ;)

32. I'm a Texan who went to school in Chicago
for a year and I was always mystified by the sweatshirt+shorts look. I know I'm a wimp about cold weather, but doesn't it seem if it's cool enough to need a sweatshirt for your upper body that your legs would get cold in the shorts?

35. It's a matter of comfort
Cold doesn't bother me; it has to be well below freezing before I notice it much. Shorts & sandals are more comfortable so I dress that way whenever possible.

Sorry .

36. My son wears shorts throughout the year.
There are days when long pants are required, but those are rare. And both my kids wear short sleeves year round, other than on special occasions.

Having lived most of my life in Chicago, I can't see wearing shorts and short-sleeved shirts in the winter there. I froze my butt off during Chicago winters. I'd wear layers of clothes in the house and still be chilly. I'm a total wimp when it comes to the cold.

37. Some guy at my office was wearing shorts today - it was in the 40s
For one thing, it's an office, leave the shorts at home. Second, it's in the 40s outside and maybe in the 50s in the office (the heat hasn't quite kicked in yet.

40. In warm climates, I understand. Here, I don't understand.
I do see people wearing shorts all year 'round in these parts. In fact, a preschool dad showed up at the school last week in shorts. The temperature was in the 30s. :wtf:

I personally have no problem with how people want to dress themselves, but I wish some folks would get a clue about their kids. In the last week or two, I've seen several people out with small children who are not dressed for the weather. I'm talking about short sleeves, no jackets, and sandals in subfreezing weather.
