Man..Canada makes me laugh
Today Prime Minister Paul Martin offered to intervene with the NHL talks.

That's so cool.

3. Gotta love it
though American President's have histories of doing the same with major sports here.

In regards to that, shame on the owners for poo-pooing the players opening offer. It's a start and they should appreciate that...it's not like they've actually done anything. The players can go to other leagues...the owners are stuck with no-profit teams right now

6. There has to be a cap - just like the NFL
The NFL is the best example of a good agreement.

7. Spot on.
The owners know that they can't control themselves, so they need a system in place that forces control upon them. If they piss the players off in the process, who cares?

8. Don't agree
I think you don't get to the position of owning a major sports team without being a savy even ruthless business man. They know what they're doing.

9. They clearly aren't saavy businessmen
Saavy businessmen don't run businesses that don't turn a profit, by definition. :)

Better revenue sharing would solve the same problem in a more effective way, without placing an artificial limit on salary.

11. I will agree on one point
I've never understood how they can be so succesful then by a team and beceom stupid. Problem is (I think) you get one or to fuckwads that wanna buy a team and they drive it up.

10. No, their egos get in the way of good business.
Smart owners budget their money and spend wisely. Dumbass owners spend and spend and spend, hoping to buy success.

Sure, everyone would love to fix costs of labor, but no businesses can guarantee that.

14. It's a start
I'm not saying it's enough necessarily but it's a start. All the owner's language and response has been totally negative to the offer.

The players asked them back to the table and made an offer. The owners just said sorry, you'll have to do better.

18. Grown men making obscene salaries playing a child's game and it
still wasn't enough.

The players fucked up this time, and they know it. The owners meant business right from the start and weren't bluffing. They'll wait this thing out as long as it takes for the asshole players to get some brains and realize just how good they had it, the greedy fuckers.

It's unreal how some of the elite players making 6 to 10 million per season claim this is all for the benefit of the average players, too, "only" making a couple million/year. Give me a break. I forget who it was who recently said how tough it would be on he and his family if he could only make 4 million as opposed to 3 1/2 mil. What a crock of bullshit. The players are getting just what they deserve now, and then some. The NHL just cannot support the salary structure it's been living on the past 10 years.
