The OJ Chase and the SUV Craze...
New theory: the popularity of the SUV was inspired by OJ's famous ride with AC in the white bronco.

Discuss.

1. No way, it was cross between The A-Team and Knight Rider that
drew everyone to the middleground

4. Yes, a coincidence
The auto companies (and the oil companies) have put big bucks into promoting bigger is better to Americans. Obviously OJ bought into it.

5. Maybe not the SUV craze but David Hasselhoff swears it hurt his career
his big concert was on the same night and OJ chase started at around the same time.

6. Did OJ's Bronco go "off-road" at anytime during that chase?....
....

Seems to me that would be the point of having one for a getaway vehicle :)

7. nope
as is the case with many current suburban SUV grocery getters, it never went off-road.

however, unlike most SUV drivers today, Al Cowlings kept the speed below 40 MPH...

8. Not exactly
SUV's were popular back then. But the OJ "chase" did cause an enormous increase in sales for the model Cowlings was driving (a Bronco?) I remember there being news stories about dealers saying people were coming in like crazy asking to get the "same as OJ."

Yeah, the country is f'd up.
