Greatest Tom Waits "ballads" |
|
granted, I would never call ANY Tom Waits song a "ballad" in the stereotypical sense of the word...but he does have some absolutely beautiful love songs, be they of love lost, love found, or love forgotten.
Other songs in a similar vain are also acceptable...
It's a hard pick...but here's 10 of my favorites...in no particular order of course:
Time Hold On I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You Jersey Girl I Want You Saving All My Love For You In Between Love Lonely Little Trip To Heaven (On The Wings Of Your Love) Blind Love
now I know that I left a lot off...but like I said there's just so many...

Because tonight out of nowhere I dug my "Nighthawks at the Diner" CD out and plugged it in for the first time in over a year.
I love this CD. It's live and it's on my top 5 Desert Island CD's.
"Eggs and sausage, side of toast, coffee and a roll, hash browns over easy, chili in a bowl, with burgers and fries, what kind of pies, al-amode if you will, I just came in to join the crowd"
"Warm beer and cold women, every joint I stumble into tonight, that's how it's been"
"All my friends are married, every Tom and Dick and Harry, you must be strong if your to go it alone"
Waits rules.

"nighthawks at the diner" the whole album sort of fits the mood the country is in right now. Here is my favorite "eggs and sausage"
nighthawks at the diner of Emma's 49er, there's a rendezvous of strangers around the coffee urn tonight all the gypsy hacks, the insomniacs now the paper's been read now the waitress said
eggs and sausage and a side of toast coffee and a roll, hash browns over easy chile in a bowl with burgers and fries what kind of pie?
In a graveyard charade, a late shift masquerade 2 for a quarter, dime for a dance with Woolworth rhinestone diamond earrings, and a sideway's glance and now the register rings and now the waitress sings
(chorus)
the classified section offered no direction it's a cold caffeine in a nicotine cloud now the touch of your fingers lingers burning in my memory I've been 86ed from your scheme I'm in a melodramatic nocturnal scene I'm a refugee from a disconcerted affair as the lead pipe morning falls and the waitress calls
(chorus)

Most people think Rod Stewart does this song the best and he does it really good but Patty Smythe does it the best. And if you like that type of music you have to get some John Waite tunes (Ain't Missing You, When I see you smile, Tears, How did I get by without you, Masterpiece of Lonliness, Change,Restless Heart, Isn't it Time and he does a really good rendition of Ain't no Sunshine when she's gone) Vinnie Vin http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1932852344/qid=1086103239/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-2852423-2023849?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 http://www.vinnievin.com
