Pet Dog Saves Drowning Baby
<snip>

A PET dog has saved a toddler from drowning in a dam on a property in central Victoria.

The 18-month-old girl was fished out of the dam at the farm property at Bowenvale, near the central Victorian town of Maryborough, about midday yesterday after the family's border collie raised the alarm.

The dog alerted the toddler's mother to the emergency by running back and forth between the house and the dam and barking, said an ambulance officer who arrived at the scene soon afterwards.

"I have been in the job for 20 years and this is one out of the box," said Greg Smith, the officer in charge of the Maryborough ambulance station, who attended to the emergency with his paramedic partner, Ian Taylor.

The girl was recovering in a stable condition at the Bendigo Hospital today.

4. Didn't Skippy the kangaroo used to do this kind of thing?
Would that make the dog the world's first kangaroo impressionist?

5. What's the big deal? Lassie did this every week on TV!
Just kidding, it IS a great story.
I love to hear stories that manifest the human-animal bond.
Animals will go to impossible lengths to rescue their human companions, which makes them far nobler spirits than a lot of people I know.

This pup should be allowed to sleep IN the bed - lol.
