Floral Cigarette Wreath for 105-Year Old Smoker
LONDON (Reuters) - Nursing home staff paid tribute to a 105-year old British woman who had smoked since the age of 15 by cremating her with a packet of cigarettes and laying a large floral cigarette on her coffin.

Marie Ellis died -- of natural causes -- at the Eaton Lodge Nursing Home in Kent, southeast England, in early December and was cremated on Tuesday, clutching a packet of her favorite Benson and Hedges cigarettes.

Guess I don't need to quit now. 105 will be good enough for me.

1. Well, 105 years' worth of ciggies alone would make anyone standing
outside the cremation chamber feel very relaxed...

Silliness aside, it's a sweet thought. Now when I snuff it, I hope I get burnt down with my favorite computer, CDs, VHS tapes, and DVDs.

2. Interesting
I wonder if smoking kept her appetite low so she lived longer or if she would have lived even longer without the cigs. I hope to think the latter but who knows.

3. Maybe the cigarettes kept her appetite low
And she didn't eat so much junk and that kept her alive longer.

4. I like to think of it that way. It's true that smoking cuts your appetite.
I smoke, mainly so I won't eat so much. I know when I stop smoking (which I must do soon), that I will gain weight.

5. I know this sounds cold, but they should do genetic testing on her body
And other long-living smokers, who never get cancer. There could be something about her genetic makeup that makes her resistant to cancer. It could lead to discoveries of new ways to prevent and treat cancer.

6. Smoking kills, people.
That's the lesson to take from this tragedy. :evilfrown:
