To open a bank account these days people have to have, in addition to
their driver's license ID, a credit card as ID. People who have said NO to credit card debt, got rid of their credit cards and have no credit cards ARE FRIED! OR, undocumented aliens ... they too are FRIED.

FASCIST AMERICA no more, no less!

Just get the card in order to have the bank account, but don't charge anything on the card.

Edit to add: You will need the card to rent the car in case you ever need to go on the lam.

14. Not decades
I just got my first ever credit card this past year. I'm 44 and have had bank accounts all my life. In the past 6 years, I've changed banks twice and have not had to have a credit card. I don't know where you got that info but it's incorrect.

You do, however, need a cc to rent a car at most rental agencies.

3. This isn't true.
My son and my daughter were able to get checking accounts and savings accounts without having a credit card. This was at different banks in different parts of the state.

just wanted another form of ID. The bank manager asked for DR Lic and any other Id, passport, etc. . I only had my license & credit cards and she said a credit card would be fine. I had power of attorney over some funds and was shifting sums of money to one bank. She would have taken any other form of ID, it was just a matter of convenience.

Oh and my credit card was for an entirely different bank.

I have no cedit cards, and my bank was tickled pink to open both savings and checking accounts for me. Maybe it's a larger/more metropolitan area phenonmenon.
