My husband wants to send the following to his Repug parents for Christmas:
The Bush Survival Bible: 200 Ways to Make it Through the Next Four Years Without Misunderestimating the Dangers Ahead.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=Mo5Dhco9kr&sourceid=00084629306233201453&bfdate=12%2D15%2D2004+09%3A52%3A18&isbn=081297476X&itm=2

and

Fahrenheit 9/11

So, do you think they'll ever speak to us or their grandchildren again? Granted, they live on the other side of the country, so we see and/or talk to them very rarely as it is.

1. I'd say don't waste your money
They'll just throw it away.

2. They're his parents -- it's his choice what kind of relationship they have
Of course, I doubt that such a gift would be very well-received, especially if his parents are more of the right-wingnut variety.

3. I'd say that's a bad idea if
you want to stay on good terms with his parents. My dad voted for Bush, but I still like the guy. We just stay away from politics when we talk.

5. They have a rocky relationship...
My father also voted for Bush, but I would never send this to him. To his credit, though, he did go see it at the movies.

6. Don't bother...
His parents must be elderly. Why hurt them or question their values.

7. Send them Fahrenheit 9/11,
but keep the book for yourself, since it's obviously intended for those of us who fear Bush, not for his loyal minions.

You could send them "The Bush Dislexicon" or "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" instead.

8. the election was Nov
the book is out in Dec, how good can it be? impulse Christmas paperback... oooh little Johnnie doesn't like Bush, he'll think this is great!

if he is really serious about getting his folks thinking, send them a book critiqing Bush policies from the right/traditional conservative perspective, deficits and rampant pork barreling. it might be more effective.

otherwise, something non-political might be a better choice. you can hope to influence their politics at a later date.

9. Make a donation to the ACLU in their name
also a donation to Amnesty International, etc in their name.

They'll get a nice card telling them about the donation. The book and DVD they can just throw on the fire.
