Make me stop arguing with evangelical types! |
|
I know I can never win, because they are fucking stupid and say whatever the hell comes in their pea-brain heads, and they will never listen to me, but I cant stop! I have this damn voice in my head that thinks I can change their damn minds! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh why must I be so hopeful?

seems to be arguing about Bev full time. Which leaves no time for arguing with anyone else, like evangelicals. Just a flip comment.

27. Bev Harris is the E-Voting Activist |
|
who started BlackBoxVoting.org and has an organization investigating the election. She used to post frequently on DU but was banned for being confrontational and threatening legal action against DU.
She is an extremely controversial figure now and is the current obsession in the GD and 2004 Election forums. There have been about a hundred threads on Bev Harris in the last couple of weeks. People seem to spend all their time on these arguments.
Sorry it was opaque to you. You can substitute any current obsession or controversy.

6. Well, faith can't be argued with |
|
not if it's strong. That's what makes it faith. And whatever one person establishes by logic, another person more expert in logic can refute tomorrow. So don't waste your breath trying to shake someone's faith - why are you trying to do that anyway?

12. I'm not trying to shake their faith, I'm just trying to prove: |
|
That school prayer should not be. I've used the bible to prove my point, and they hated it. because I showed they were being hypocrites. and I logically said, that if a person is sending their child to a public school it is not the schools responsibly to teach that child the bible or have them pray. If people want their child to learn the bible then they should send them to a bible school or take them to church or read the bible at home.

I'm with you. Faith is a private affair and the government has no place in forcing beliefs on others. If you think it because you're forced to, it's not faith anyway.

19. Exactly! They feel that we should bring back school prayer, I'm trying to |
|
explain why we should not bring it back. And you see, I figured a good way to show they were wrong on this was to show them what the bible says, what Jesus said:
Matthew 6:5-6 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Their response to it was basically, "Don't quote scripture, its sacred."

25. Thats what I thought, heres what the person said exacly: |
|
"okay ...left the other one alone*...but baptists preachers daughter here...if u are going to quote scripture..then u have to quote it all..not just one or two passages...and no I wont exchange scriptures with you..that is a very sacred thing to me..and I wont belittle it in anyway....and on these boards is not the place...no harm no foul okay?...just no scriptures please!"
*meaning my other post.
Don't Baptists go to bible study.. like all the time?
Maybe I should quote the whole thing.. lets see:
'Jesus' Teaching on Prayer
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.'
Ahh yes I see how the proves me so wrong for only quoting part of it..... :eyes:

Just enthusiastically agree with everything they say. When they get more comfortable with you, you can see just how crazy they'll really get. Its really entertaining.

29. NEVER argue with them..and this is why... |
|
their thoughts are all fed to them...they learn the lines...they do not think...just repeat the feed...and every time you argue with them they get to practice and polish their presentation of the feed..and in addition...each time they repeat the program...they become more, not less, programed. When u argue with them, you are helping them to become better and better at presenting their programmed case.
