it befudles me! You could say expertise, ability, achievement, art, artistry, competence, craft, craftsmanship, execution, handicraft, handiwork, manufacture, proficiency, quality, skill, technique, work

Its absurd to have a problem with it. Its a good word. In common usage it does not denote that the work was done by a man, necessarily, anyway.
Whats next, since you have already decided that you are required to edit yourself, where does it stop? Should we go through the libraries, should Shakespeare be expurgated to remove such supposedly offensive terms?
I give up, I guess, I am just a dinosaur, herstory has passed me by.
