Any easy cookie recipes?
Since I'm poor, I'm not going to buy individual presents for people. I'm just gonna bake cookies and put them in pretty wrapping? I'm not a domestic goddess or anything and I never cook. Do any of you have any easy, novice-proof cookie recipes?

P.S. I had this coworker a long time ago who made "jello" cookies. Has anyone ever heard of them, and if so, does anyone know how to make them?

3. You might try taking a peak at the Cooking and Baking group
I recall someone posting a recipe for cookies that were like 3 or 4 ingredients all mixed and baked quickly. Sounds easy to me.

And of course, shortbread is easy, cheap and simple.

5. Why don't you just prepare the dry mix ingredients in a mason jar
you can do it in layers. Flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, chocolate chips, nuts etc. to make it look like one of those sandart thingies. Cover the jars with a decorative peice of holiday cloth and put on the ring. Don't forget to make up a card with the rest of the recipie (eggs, butter and how long to cook) for finishing the cookies Then the person receiving the gift can make them when they like.

6. Suggestion
Sorry I don't have any with me to pass on. However, if you are stuck, you could try surfing the web. There are several good sites for recipes. Here's one: allrecipes.com

Good luck.

8. No bake peanut butter balls:
1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/4 cup peanut butter -- smooth or chunky
1 pound powdered sugar
3 1/2 cups Rice Krispies
6 ounces chocolate chips
1/2 large Hershey candy bar -- chopped
1 square (2 1/2") paraffin -- shaved
Melt butter in a heavy 2 quart saucepan over low heat. Add peanut butter, stir until well blended. Remove from heat. Combine sugar and Rice Krispies in a large bowl. Pour hot peanut butter mixture over all. Mix thoroughly using hands. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place on wax paper lined cookie sheets. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.

Combine chocolate chips, Hershey Bar, and paraffin in top of double boiler. Place over hot water until melted. Dip chilled peanut butter balls in chocolate mixture to coat. Place on wax paper lined sheets to set chocolate. When dry, store in refrigerator.

They are easy, inexpensive and good.

10. Here's a jello cookie recipe
3/4 cup oleo
1/2 cup sugar
1 (3 ounces) package jello gelatin, any flavor
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

1. Cream oleo, sugar, jello and eggs together in a medium to large bowl.
2. Add the rest of the ingredients.
3. Mix well.
4. Roll dough into little balls and place on a greased and floured cookie sheet.
5. Flatten each with a fork.
6. (Sometimes a little flour on the fork keeps it from sticking).
7. Bake 6-8 minutes at 350 degrees.

11. Easiest cookie recipe in the book is
Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup Peanut Butter
1/2 Sugar (more sugar for taste if you prefer)
1/2 cup flour

Mix all 3 ingredients. Add more flour if peanut butter is still too sticky. You want a moist dough like feel to the mix....But don't add a lot more flour. Just a little at a time until you've reached desired texture. Too dry and the cookie will crumble.

Round into balls with your hands. Place on ungreased, non-stick cookie sheet. Gently press fork tines on top of cookie center. This will help spread the cookie out but DO NOT flatten the cookie. Repeat with the fork tines in the opposite direction. Criss-cross.

You can add Reeses Pieces, M&M's, or chocolate chips if desired. Maybe a 1/4 cup.

Hope this helps!

12. Here is a recipe my mother used when teaching us
how to bake cookies when we were children:

SUNSET COOKIES

1 pound butter or margarine, softened (4 sticks)
3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
4½ cups flour

Cream butter or margarine. Add sugar and blend thoroughly. Add vanilla (you could subsitute almond extract for the vanilla if you like). Blend in flour. It may be necessary to work the last of it in with your hands. Shape into rolls 1½ inches in diameter. Roll in colored sugar, wrap in waxed paper, and chill until firm. Cut in slices and bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or to desired doneness. Makes 7 to 8 dozen cookies. If you don't happen to have any colored sugar, mix one part Jell-o with three or four parts sugar. This mixture adds both color and flavor.

Here's an easy, no-bake recipe from the Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church (Burnsville, MN) cookbook, 1975:

NUMMIES

1 6-ounce package butterscotch chips
1/4 cup chunky peanut butter
4 cups corn flakes or Wheaties

Melt chips; stir in peanut butter. Add cereal and mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper. Refrigerate. Makes 2 dozen cookies.
